Balcony and Shade Structure

Featured Replies

I have another question on another of those California limiting laws, or is it. Do they limit the amount of shade each house can use. Surly they wouldn't !!

Your build does look good but if you gots a large family you all ain't gonna fit .

Thanks Cal, what are "short rows" ?

No problem John.  An old farm term.  As you are doing field work, and have spent a considerable amount of time and have most of the job done, you (quite literally in many cases) come to the edges of the field where the rows are shorter due to the layout of the fields.  At this point the end is in sight and you catch a second wind.  It is generally a good thing as you will soon be able to say that the job is well done.  A common expression when I grew up in NY, and a common expression here in Georgia.

Out west, where the fields may be large, flat, square/rectangular it might not be used much.  Here in the east it is normal and the expression has literal meaning.  I even tell myself that when I near the end of yard work, especially the mowing part!

HA!

Jess, you know Kalifornia well my friend. I wouldn't put it past them!

But, that is only the balcony structure. The shade structure will cover the entire patio area, 14' by 24' of concrete patio will be covered, yer too funny Jess, thanks for the laugh!

@Smallpatch, this is what the old one looked like before I tore it down, you can see how big the shade structure will be when I am done.

You're not too far from the truth though Cal, the shade structure will go up quickly the balcony beams and joists where the most time consuming. I still love "Short Rows"!
