MWTCA What's It, (Change of Format)

Hey folks, I have an idea, the last MWTCA What's It project for June spurred an idea in me that I think will be fun and more equitable for all.

At this time, there are two ways you can win the current month's What's It.

  1. The MWTCA decides your answer is correct.
  2. You are chosen in a random draw.

Proposal

We would eliminate the random draw as the second way to win, and add the following:

  • Instead of a random draw, for each months What's It topic, within the topic page, a voting poll would be installed. While the month is rolling along we could vote for "Best Answer". If MWTCA decides our answers are not sufficient, than we'd default to the "Members Choice" or "Best Answer" to award the membership too. No more random draws.
  • Here is where the real fun begins! We need to butter up the Primary Winner prize. So, since it's so hard to get a good referenced and researched answer for MWTCA, and since it's so hard to get our answers accepted by the MWTCA, for the legitimate (MWTCA sanctioned) winner, we'll issue the calendar year membership, and along with that, we'll award a tool too. The tool would be in the spirit of the MWTCA, it may be an old Bailey plane, it may be a new hand tool sponsored by one of our supporters, It may be an old clean and usable Disston hand saw. But rest assured, the tool will be as classy as you all are.

So to break it all down

Primary winner (decided by MWTCA): One calendar year membership, and a hand tool.

Alternate winner (decided by our membership): One calendar year membership.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Sounds good, but with the 'extra' prizes, will that not drive up the Site's operating costs?

Not at all, the prizes should be sponsored by our supporters.

Not to mention Chips, ya'll aint research genius's yet! I don't see many MWTCA sanctioned wins in our list of winners!:P

Great idea John, thanks for the change.

I am like Lew on this.  Sounds good, I always enjoy puzzling over the pics and seeing what others come up with.  I was very surprised we didn't have a couple "sanctioned" winners lately though.

Cal

Sounds good to me although DONUTS would make a nice prize too.

Probably stale by the time you get them! :(

Glad you all like the new direction this project is going to take, actually we owe my flash of brilliance to @DuckSoup. Through an email exchange he expressed a very minor friendly concern about the project, and after emailing Bob back, the whole "Members Choice" jumped into my lil ol pee brain. Thanks Bob!

Now, I need to perform, I need to figure out how to get a danged voting poll up in each month's MWTCA topic. I'll figure it out though.

I edited the proposal above, originally had First and Second place winner, this may have inferred that we will have two winners each month, we will not, only one winner.

I changed the wording to Primary Winner and Alternate Winner. Meaning if MWTCA accepts an answer, that will be the Primary Winner, if all answers are rejected, we go to the Alternate Winner.

Any grammar gurus out there? Make sense?

Knowing Bob as I do now, he would tell you he did not suggest it, he does not like misplaced credit!

But you can thank him for sparking the idea in us through his interaction with us.

I'm more worried about the yellow liquidy brain stuff than if it were one of those round green pea thingies.  :P

Ok folks, our sponsor Woodcraft donated two drop dead gorgeous tools for us to use starting in the Sept What's It topic. These tools are to drool over, and one of them will go to the verified MWTCA winner with a researched answer to Sept What's It. You guys are gonna love it! I am completely excited!

Don't we get a hint of what tbey are?;)
