July 15, 20178 yr Popular Post Went out Barn Sale-ing....two stops were....meh. a panel saw, and not much else at the first stop. Framer's square at the second one.. At least I can READ this $2 square...the saw? Once I got the rust off, a fully readable etch appeared. There is an "8" inside the "D" 10ppi, 20" long crosscut Panel saw....everything looked good.. Except Disston never used this type of medallion. Hmmm...spent $2.50 for the saw. After hammering the plate flat and straight, and the rust removed....had to set things aside...Road Trip to pick up the GrandBRATS... Stopped at that place in Brandt, OH......fellow is getting too pricey to stop in any more...I spent $3 on a saw... 26" long, has 6points per inch. Has a strange etch.. Never really heard of it... small box at the top of the etch looks like a M9? Bolts? Don't get too excited.... Not sure when this style came out.. . Stamped as a "6". need to do some research on this saw Not that great a day, not that bad a day...meh. As for Brandt? Bypass the place. Way overpriced...18" F style clamp ( made in China) $18 each? same with a 24" and a 12" one...same price...and won't come down, either... Maybe tomorrow, I'll have better luck?
July 15, 20178 yr Author Popular Post So far today... Notice the bit? Might come in handy? May need a good cleaning....but, for $10? I think I can handle that. DW610 with bit.
July 15, 20178 yr Oh my, guess "The End is Near"...Newman now has a second corded router...never thought I'd see the day I'd grabbed that one too for $10 especially looking at the first picture and seeing it has anti-gravity powers! Interesting etch on that second saw..."The Farmer." Looking forward to see what else you find and learn about that one.

July 26, 20178 yr Author Update on that "The Farmer" saw...asked Pete Taran to look at it......Disston made a saw called the Imp. They would also custom etch for Hardware Stores using this saw. Bolts used are from 1875. So, some Store was selling a brand called the Farmer back in the mid 1870s. Disston made the saw, etched for that brand. Warranted Superior medallion. Would have been up to that store to honor the warranty . So, this saw is close to ...140 yrs old? The short saw IS a D8, a Panel saw from before the 1928 line-up changes. I may have that one sharpened back up. Router? Haven't even plugged it in, yet. The bit has been removed, and cleaned up. The router looks a wee bit like a small B&D one I got a few years back Right down to the power switch. Except the B&D only takes 1/4" bits. This is what you see in some of the shop photos. Hmmm, Wonder how hard it would be to switch the two out, in case I would ever need a large bit? Will have to check the wrenches used on the B&D collet.....someday...
July 26, 20178 yr Thanks for the research and history lesson on the saw...I sure wish it could talk and tell what it's done in its life and well as those who used it. They just don't make quality old tools any more!
July 27, 20178 yr Author The Disston Imp saw.. A little new than the Farmer This was the skew back version I rehabbed a while back. I thought I'd seen that handle before....
