June 20, 20178 yr Popular Post Seems this beat up saw came home with me.... No back on a backsaw? Plate had almost as many dips and curves as the roads down there.. maybe the handle could be saved? Well, this saw has a loose handle, "bolts" are rivets. Unable to tighten things up....I wonder... Holes look close......maybe get rid of the riveted handle? Might just work.... Had to chop up the handle, and cut the rivets off. Shined the brass a bit.. Have filled that little hole where someone used to put a hanger loop through. So, after a few adjustments of a hole or two, adjust the heel of the plate for a btter fit.. Looks more like a Disston No. 4 Backsaw, now. Have filled in some holes, been trying to clean the wood up.. ready for another 90+yrs? 14" long, 11 ppi. Cost so far? NADA.....
June 21, 20178 yr Author Popular Post Twas a very busy day.....Honey-dos to fix a window screen, and clear away the damaged Gazebo.... then..... One of the buys yesterday was a new wire wheel for the grinder. Made things a bit easier. This is the Millers Falls No. 11 I brought back home. Has a new cutter, too. Rust is gone, though. Haven't decided on the handles, yet.. But it will at least make a few shavings..next.. These things are HUGE! Stanley No.8, type 7. Fixed the frog, cleaned the rest up. Chipbreaker was on the wrong side of iron, fixed that. Had to tip it up a bit, to get it all in the camera....getting crowded in the til.. Sitting beside it is a Stanley No. 7c, type 9. Then #5-1/2.....wasn't any room for the No.6c, even.... Ok, enough planes, maybe something different? This is a Stanley 6" sweep drill brace. The only item I had to pay for. From the only Antique Store we found on the way home that was open. Not sure what that is about. Marked as a 6" and has Stanley barely stamped on the other side of the back arm, only place with enough room... Busy day, today.
June 21, 20178 yr The largest plane I have is a #7, and it's a handful (plus some). I can't imagine throwing around a #8...unless you have arms like Hulk Hogan.
