June 13, 20179 yr Outstanding, Gene. Well, done my friend. YOU should be proud. Morris chairs are one of the most frequently copied chairs. To have yours recognized for its merits and to rise above the rest is something you should be proud to have accomplished.

June 13, 20179 yr Reading back what I wrote earlier this morning, I need to fall on my sword. Gene, I came off really snarky and negative on the chair post regarding rockers. I screwed up. All work should be applauded, it was not an appropriate commentary from me in the position I am in. We should encourage all works. That being said, I did love your chair more, I really do. And you're not a hack. Please accept my apology for inserting negativity into your topic. Back to positive thoughts and encouragement of all works, it's all good stuff!
June 13, 20179 yr Author Well thanks for your confidence, John. As to the rest, we...at least I... dont sweat the small stuff. It's all good. Edited June 13, 20179 yr by Gene Howe

June 13, 20179 yr You're selling yourself way short Gene. The Morris Chair is a real challenge . Definitely not something any hack could build. If that were possible, I probably would have built one. I agree with those who say, your Morris Chair should have won 1ST place.

June 13, 20179 yr Popular Post As a kid, I frequently visited a home of an elderly couple (my adopted grand parents at the time) and Phil, the gent who owned the beach home on the cliffs had some wonderful items in his old home built in the 20's. One of them was an original William Morris chair. He inherited it from his father. Phil always told me that I would have that old William Morris in my own home when I grew up. Back in 98, ol Phil passed away at the age of 99. Phil was a strong 6' 10" Swede, tall and lanky, the Swede's build em tall. He took me fishing all the time, he had an old 10' cane pole he loved to use. Phil died along with the discussion of the chair being in my own home. I'll always treasure those memories, I sat in that chair everytime I visited. It was my chair. After all I'm a Morris! I love your chair Gene, it speaks to me.
June 13, 20179 yr Popular Post My little rocking chair was also in the contest.....only got an Honorable Mention.....Not too bad for this first rocking chair I've ever made....

June 24, 20179 yr Author Can't help you, Pat. I don't think he ever put all the entries in one place. Sorry. First place went to a Maloof style rocker. Mine was the only Morris chair entered. Edited June 24, 20179 yr by Gene Howe
