May 30, 20179 yr Popular Post Good morning folks! And what a glorious morning it is! After the long Memorial Day weekend, I'd be surprised if you all got much done in those shops, what with all the family stuff and events happening. But if you did manage to get into those shops, what did you get done? What did you build, or work on? And what have you planned for the week ahead? May 30, 20179 yr It's Tuesday. Last morning in Tucson. Very enjoyable stay. But, glad to be heading home. Anxious to get the table slabs and get back to the shop. Need to finish a sled so a jig can be made to cut hinge mortises for the rifle cases. Two more mesquite projects, a case and a table, and one case of olive wood. Then, it's on to a few shop projects.
May 30, 20179 yr Nieces wedding was beautiful and everyone had a good time. The weather even cooperated. I will be in the shop this week for sure. Have a couple turnings to do.
May 30, 20179 yr Spent most of the weekend up north at my wife's house - doing a few things to get it ready to sell. I may have over-worked my ankle a tad bit so yesterday was a "rest the ankle" day. Feels better today, so I am glad I did that rather than go out and stand on the hard concrete floor in the shop
May 30, 20179 yr I think I might have been in shop 10 minutes over the whole weekend. Mostly spent time in the yard, when it wasn't raining. Not sure about this week, already Tue. and scheduled to donate platelets in a couple hours, that will pretty shoot today. Hard to believe but probably tomorrow if it's dry enough I'll mow and mow. Have said it before but it's true, it's hard to find shop time in the spring and summer. Steve
May 30, 20179 yr Hey Steve bid that yard work out ,it could not be as important as shop time. That said I did spend the afternoon in the yard yesterday digging flower beds. Hope to get all shop time today. Made a ornament stand Saturday will have to make pic and post today.

Where I moved to now the yard is only a couple of thousand sq.ft. and is beautifully landscaped, there was a guy who took care of it before for the last 8 years , so I continued with him, he trims and cuts the grass, fertilizes ( I buy the Fertilizer, and bug killer), Weeds the flower beds, prunes all the shrubs and rakes the leaves. He charges me $15. /hr. and furnishes all the equipment, gas and tools. @ 2 hrs, a week for 7 months and once a month for the other 5. well worth it to me, and I can spend more time in the shop. Herb
May 31, 20179 yr Popular Post Made it home! Back seat and half the bed crammed full of Costco purchases. Barely had room for the slab. 6 hours drive time. We're beat. Unload in the morning. I'll be looking for any excuse to get back to Dead Tree Salvage. The place is a gold mine. He only slabs up mesquite and pistachio. He has some really good, gnarly stuff. You turners would go nuts.
May 31, 20179 yr Crushed my enemies Saw them driven before me in defeat Heard the lamentations of their women. ok.....not exactly....but one can dream....
June 1, 20179 yr I had to take my step-dad to his eye (retina) specialist yesterday. He suffers from macular-degeneration in one eye (lost his sight in other nearly 20 years ago). He was experiencing some blurriness since last visit about 3 weeks ago. He does some unexplained swelling within the retina...we go back on the 13th for his monthly injection (1x/ mo for the past 10-1/2 years) and full blown exam. His doctor is pretty quirky, well actually eccentric, but one of the best retina specialists in the Midwest. From there we went out for a late lunch, then some time at the cemetery. Today was a mowing marathon...~3 acres done; tomorrow a couple fence rows and last acre of "yard"; then let the weed-eating commence; Also chauffeuring girls to/from summer swim & volley ball practices; Remainder of the week TBD.
