May 10, 20179 yr Popular Post A couple of weeks ago I posted this picture of some logs I got from a lady, carried to the mill to get sawn into lumber. Yesterday I got a call from my sawyer to come pick up the lumber. So we hooked up the 18' trailer and headed out to the saw mill which is about 10 miles from the house. As it turned out most of the logs were White Oak and a couple of Red Oak, two Poplar and two Hickory. He cut away the bad parts on the outside of the logs and looks like we got some good lumber. I had all of it sawn at 5/4 and there are a few pieces thicker. Most of the White Oak is on the front, some Red Oak and Poplar on the back and the Hickory on top. I have about 3' hanging off the back of the trailer. Not bad for $200.00.
May 10, 20179 yr "Not Bad for $200"? I hope you can sleep at night there, John. I sure wish we had hardwoods like that here - almost all of our oak is scrub, very little of the others except for some bigleaf maple and alder on the coast. We do have myrtlewood, but most is way to small for lumber.
May 10, 20179 yr $200...what's that come out to John about 10 cents/bd/ft? That's less than free pallet lumber up here factoring in one's labor. Don't forget to blindfold the donkeys when you have them tote this up to the stash barn!

But when we started loading he said I way under charged you. i picked up a job while I was there. A lady pulled up wanting a mantle. He told her he only cut rough stuff to see me. So I'm doing a Cherry mantle. He knew I had the big pieces of Cherry since he cut it.

Once she sees your work. Edited May 10, 20179 yr by Gene Howe
