April 24, 20179 yr Past 8-10 days I've managed to accomplish the absolute must-dos on a good day (wasn't many) after "partying with the 'stones'....kidney not rolling...while a rolling stone may not gather any moss it sure as hades can cling to your 'innards'... Yesterday celebrated oldest grand-daughter's 16th birthday...that one crept up sorta' fast...Definitely not ready for a 16 y/o, but she's a great girl we're very proud of...she has four tennis matches this week; youngest grand-daughter has a couple track meets on tap. Waiting on a call from my step-father; may need to take him to doctor yet today. Hopefully pick up parts on order this PM for one of the JD's and get back to mowing...yard is in pretty bad shape after last weeks debacle; also need to check on the F-150 status; body shop got a start on it last week...good news is the frame is square & true...I'll try to get pics posted from that incident...as Rosanna-rosanna-danna used to say. "if it's not this, it's that...just goes to show you, it's always something!"
April 24, 20179 yr Great featured image. There's so much to see in it. Did you notice the cooper's shoes? The rifle case is about ready to have it's lid cut off. Waiting on some T Track to make another set of track saws specifically for that purpose. Band saw is too small and the TS method is too dangerous with the length of the box. Might have some pics later over on the Work has Commenced thread. The Micro Jig angle cutting device arrived but, haven't had a chance to assemble it. Probably next week. Still moving pretty slow but, the leg is supporting weight, now. Ibuprofen seems to help. Edited April 24, 20179 yr by Gene Howe
April 24, 20179 yr Spent the weekend over at my Dad's. First trip since surgery, I drove over and back and did pretty well. Hopefully will be able to get into the shop some this week during the evenings (if the J-O-B does not interfere)
April 24, 20179 yr Put coats of finish on a cedar chest I am refinishing. Spent some time outside since the weather was great. Went to the Youngstown Flea which is a flea market for hand made goods only. Nice to see what others are creating.
April 24, 20179 yr Cleaned a few tools, hung lights in a Gazebo....not much else I did get the last two saws back from the sharpening service....nice. Monday....about says it all....Cardio Doctor visit today.... Not enough lumber in the shop to start building anything....
April 24, 20179 yr Popular Post NOT honey dippers! Finished them up late last week. This is the last run of 20, actually there were 27 but I only have 20 jars wrapped for spraying the lids. 80 of them in this box, ended up with 107 in all. Really glad to be done with them and looking forward to reaping the benefits of my labor. Took a page out of Ron's book and did some texturing on a few of the knobs. I've had my texturing tools for a long time, don't know why I didn't think of that before. Finally, I'm going to start on a tall hollow form. I have a piece of walnut on the lathe just now. It's about 16" long and 7" diameter. Depending on how it goes there may or may not be pictures. Steve
April 24, 20179 yr Popular Post Turned a platter from cherry crotch Saturday. Then I worked on this ornament. I blew out the bottom a while back and could not throw it away so glued on a piece of Bradford pear.used mesquite for the bottom cap . Still more to be done here
April 24, 20179 yr Popular Post On the subject of Coopers here is a video from my youtube feed . Have not had a chance to watch the whole video. Saw a bunch of antique water buckets in Sevierville , TN couple weeks ago. Just $20. Now wish I bought one. Edited April 24, 20179 yr by Gerald

Yep, for sure hand crafted by somebody from that region. How did the area look since the fires last November? Still so very sad and senseless. Always had been such a pristine beautiful area (OK except for all the commercialism the past 40 years).
April 24, 20179 yr Tuned the band saw, and installed newly sharpened blade in the TS. Had to charge the battery on the John Deere lawn tractor. Got some pricing on quarter sawn white oak. Scarry !
April 24, 20179 yr Got two saws back from the Sharpener Service Saturday.....( didn't have to fight Honda traffic that way) Gave them a test drive.. A bit hard to start a cut...cuts fast as a rip cut. As for the second saw.. Twas a Disston D-8. Has a very readable etch, 8 points, cuts rough and fast..and straight, no thanks to the operator.... About the only sawdust I'll make, today...
April 24, 20179 yr BTW...if you have ever want to experience the "thrill of driving in the Indy 500......be on the Honda Parkway at shift change....that will cure you of any race car driving...
April 24, 20179 yr Try the 101, 202, in Phoenix. That'll cure you of driving....period. I do believe those drivers think those route signs are speed limit signs. They at least are courteous enough to give you a blink or two before they cut you off. Sheer madness. Edited April 24, 20179 yr by Gene Howe
April 25, 20179 yr These people will have wrecks, just getting out of the parking lots...They WILL pass you on both side of your car...at the same time. Even on a two lane highway like St Rt 347, when the East Liberty Plant lets out....even the State Highway Patrol goes and hides then.... The hour before and the hour after ( plants let out 1/2 apart) is NOT a nice time to go by either place.....They have been known to run over people who are just walking to their cars...and keep on driving.

Always had been such a pristine beautiful area (OK except for all the commercialism the past 40 years). We did not go into any areas that had been totally scorched. There were some spots where I could tell there had been burn but trees were budding or leafed out. Looked like they had sewn winter grass in those areas.
April 25, 20179 yr Popular Post I'm continuing to build cabinets for the schools. I have 20 down and 6 to go. More importantly, I'm very thankful today. I violated Ralph Jone's rule about keeping your fingers at least 6 inches from a moving saw blade this morning. I grazed my right index finger over the blade and peeled the top layer of skin off. I told John Moody that I was a very fortunate guy. It didn't bleed much and it was just a flesh wound. It'll take a few weeks to completely heal but it sure had potential to be wayyyyyyy worse.

Sure glad it wasn't worse. Blood is hard to remove from raw wood. OTOH, if you had SawStop, no blood, but you'd be out a couple hunnert bucks plus a blade.
