The boss asked me if I could make her an egg tea light in time for Easter. So, I took a break from the dippers and did this over the last few days. Overall I'm happy with it, the narrow end is a little fat but not to bad and she loves it so that's ok. It was my thought to put
"He is risen" or just "Risen" on the back but just couldn't make it look right to me eye. It was also my original thought to stipple the "halos" but I'm so glad I waited as I like them the way they are.

The egg itself is maple and the base is spalted beech.

I have NO idea how you did that, it looks like etching.  Maybe one of those computer controlled things.

Thanks for all the comments gentlemen!!

Ron, I'm not sure but I think you're talking about the texturing? At any rate, the Mount Calvary scene is a generic picture I found with an image search and transferred it to the egg with my eggbot. The halos I added just with a compass. The piercing is done with an ultrahigh speed dental hand piece. They work the best because they run so fast and won't grab like a dremel or other hand held grinder. A knockoff can purchased off ebay for about 15 bucks. The texturing is a shading technique called stippling and it was done,  one dot, or one small stroke at a time with a pyrography pen. I used a small tip for the crosses and mount calvary. The body of the egg was done with a larger home made tip and I tried to give the dots a little "stroke". If that doesn't explain it well enough let me know and I'll do a short video on the technique.

Love to  see the video, would not attempt it, but would  enjoy seeing you do  it

Steve great job on the piercing and pyrography. Gonna have to try the pattern idea. How is the egg lit , I know you have noted before.

Ron, this isn't me but the technique is exactly the same. Just a bunch of dots.

Steve

Just saw this in Lew's Weekly Wisdom...somehow missed it...apparently I needed to see it today, Good Friday...

Loss of words to describe the beauty & craftsmanship on this piece let alone the significance.

A very special piece Steve. THANK-you!!

...........gonna git my ball & glove & go home,,good grief Charlie Brown,,,,,I WONT EVER BE THAT GOOD,,,,,,I'M GONNA SIT DOWN & CRY.......all them little dots,,,,,,,good grief ! ! ! !

Steve, firstly of obviously, absolutely beautiful sir, it's an extraordinary example of life and art, thanks for sharing.

Secondly, since I'm a Patriot Woodworker junkie in the technical sense, I'd like to draw every ones attention to the excellent job Steve did in "tagging" this topic. See the related tags under the title of this topic, that pretty much cover all the aspects of this project. Now that's the way to do it Steve! Thanks so much!

And, when you click on any of Steve's tags, you will be taken to every other topic that was tagged with that word, go ahead and try it, you'll love it. After you click on any of his tags at the top, you'll see immediately the benefits of TAGGING YOUR TOPICS! :)

Now, far into the future, when this topic is buried under thousands of topics, and someone does a search using a word that contains any of those tags, this topic will rise to the top of the search results, thus benefiting anyone in the far off future who wants to see a project like this.

I would like to implore every one to please, use our tags feature, it's the right thing to do, it's out of courtesy for those who come after us who want to relevantly search for a topic or idea, and it only takes a few extra seconds. Thank you Steve!

I must apologize, in my original reply to Ron I meant to include a video link. Reading through this thread I realized that I did not and it's to late to edit. So, once again, here is a video of a person stippling with a pyrography pen. Also, once again, it's not me but the technique is the same, or at the least, very similar

Steve.
