Wednesday's Wisdom For Woodturners March 29, 2017

Featured Replies

Another information packed week here at the Woodturner's Forum!

Member Ron posted several items. First he brought us up-to-date on how the lowered lathe position worked for him-

Ron turned some more ornaments with the newly positioned lathe. Looks like things are working well-

Ron not only turns ornaments he also creates crochet hooks for his wife. Here's one he modified-

And a post showing some of the various sizes. I am amazed at the delicateness of these items-

Ron also posted a chip deflector he whipped up-

Pretty Cool! Here's his post-

We had a very lively discussion concerning carbide lathe tools started by RustyFN. One of our new members- Jim has an intimate knowledge of carbide cutters and provided a really nice insight about carbide and the cutters. Check out the thread here-

Member Joe started a discussion about pen turning and pen sales. Lots of great information about suppliers and pricing your work- something, I think, every woodworker struggles with.

Ron added a different slant when considering the sales demographic for turned pens-

Gerald posted pictures of lidded containers he made for a program called "Beads of Courage".

He is in great company with these turnings. Turners Tim Yoder and Carl Jacobson both participate in creating these items. Please check out Gerald's post. There is a link there to the Beads of Courage program and how to get involved.

I did remember to look up the latest compilation of YouTube woodturning videos from "Rick Turns".

If you want to see the list in a PDF format, click on "Show More" below the video-

As turners, we are always looking for the next thing to turn. Something different. Something unusual.

Now I'm not saying you should steal borrow this idea. I just thought it was kind of neat.

Safe turning

Another good job Lew and I thank you. Somehow I'd missed Geralds' beads of courage post and wouldn't have seen it if not here. I always enjoy Rick's new videos of the month posts.

Steve

Thanks for the post Lew

Great job on the weekly post Lew.  Got a few videos I need to watch now.  Thanks for the info.

Another GREAT episode of "As the Wood Turns" Lew.  You do an absolutely outstanding job emphasizing TPW activity then blending with external topics. Thanks for your work!

I can't say it any better!
