March 26, 20179 yr Is there a way to grip finished pieces in the chuck with minimal damage? I want to center and redrill an eight inch hole in a small piece. It is bamboo and I'm thinking that it will splinter out. Never drilled that stuff.
March 27, 20179 yr Ron, there are several ways to do what you want I think. If I understand what you're doing a jamb chuck is probably your answer. Basically you turn a recess in a piece of scrap that your piece will fit into snugly. Its pretty easy to do and if the opening is a little big paper towels make good shims. Steve
March 27, 20179 yr Not sure of the orientation of the piece you want to grip. There is a turner I follow that has some really innovative chucks- His site is here- http://www.davidreedsmith.com/default.htm Here's a link to more chuck ideas https://www.woodturningonline.com/articles.php?catid=9 Edited March 27, 20179 yr by lew
