As I stated earlier in a post it has been a busy week and that is good. Yesterday was three months since my knee replacement and I am amazed at how well it has done. I am pretty much doing anything I want now and don't think about the knee too much.

So with that said, I am way behind on projects in the shop and show season has started so now it is projects for people that come by and inventory for shows. We did two back to back the past two Fridays and sold out of cutting boards so I am pushing to get them made. I usually make six or seven at a time and this batch was six large size cutting boards. I used some of the Walnut that was on the trailer that looked so bad. When it was cut and planed it look really nice. I think I did good on that batch.

Got to get the glue off and then start them through the drum sander.

I also sold out of Bread Dipping boards so I cut out pieces of Cherry, Walnut and Maple to make a batch of them today. I got this lumber from a lady who's husband passed away. He had the whole trailer loaded planed to 3/4". Not sure what he was going to make but it saves me some time.

And I have a bunch of cut off pieces of Cedar from the Cedar Green Egg Tables. So those are going to get cut and made into cedar crates to use up the pieces. I made a few a while back and they sold as soon as I posted them on Facebook. This will let me clear out these pieces from the shop.

@John Morris Must be an off day to eat breakfast at the crack of noon.

We just got back from a 12 day trip to Virginia and saw Montplier, Monticello , and Highland as well as Stonewall Jackson's home and VMI Museum , And a visit to "the Field of Lost Shoes"IMG_1921.thumb.JPG.acc90d37c0c5e1a6879c956162bcbbeb.JPGIMG_1798.thumb.JPG.b5cbd0c6755c3635b9ac87ddfb7275d5.JPG. A little backed up for now with 4 hours to work tonight, Church Security Tng in the AM and security duty on Sunday. Hope to get back in the swing Monday. Have to do a turning demo for the woodworking club Monday night. Hopefully also next week will do photo session on what I have completed the past month.

Beautiful images Gerald!

Well, here on the West Coast LOML and I wrapped up breakfast around 9:30am. I work a 10/40 work week, 10 hour days, with Fridays off, and me and misses head out for breakfast after we drop the kids off at school. It's a tradition for us, every Friday we head out for a bite to eat.

Man, I really love those pictures Gerald. Thanks for posting!

Not much planned this weekend. I went back to work last Tuesday, and the first 2 days were a little tiring. Feeling better now though. I have one more week before I see the surgeon on the 31st. Hopefully at that point, I can get the cast removed and be put in a walking boot. I still do not know if I will be able to put weight on the foot or not. It probably depends on what the surgeon sees in the x-ray as to how the heel bone is mending.

I do not post about where I am when out of town and waited till now. We went to James Madison's home Montplier on his birthday. The wreath laying was done by dignataries and USMC for President Trump. Found out they do that for all deceased Presidents, but the Marines only do Madison.

That is great thinking. I see a lot of people telling others when and where they are going on facebook and such. To me, that is just a great invitation to a thief

Beth and I were there last year and it was an awesome time. We took the behind the scene tour at Monticello. That was very interesting and I hope you go to do that one. They take you into rooms the other tours don't go. We went upstairs in the rotunda room. We had one of the best young ladies as our guide and she really made it an interesting tour.

Those are two interesting places to visit. We also did Mt. Vernon and was there during the placing of the wreath. They pick a veteran and a boy or girl scout. One places the wreath and the other reads a prayer that Washington wrote. A pretty moving event if you are there.

As you can see by the picture, here's my project for the next few weeks.  I have contracted to build 24 shelving units and this is $2,000 worth of plywood in one place. 23 sheets of 3/4 birch are stacked in one pile, 15 sheets of 1/4 birch standing on edge and 100 BF of poplar in the other pile.

Quite a big project Ron. Congrats on getting the commission!

Steve

We've toured DC three times and, while we saw something different and wonderful each time, Monticello and Mt. Vernon were my all time favorite visits.

The DC monuments and memorials are inspiring but, visiting the homes of those two great men is somehow more personal, interesting and memorable.

Congratulations Ron on the job! Looks like you will be busy for a while which is a good thing.

Ron, where's the van? That's quite a pile of work you have before you. Congrats on the commission.

This weekend, I'll be getting the shop rearranged in preparation for those rifle cases. This is gonna be fun.

Back to the cutting board

What beside walnut is in use in the picture.

I think maple is the tan one?  I am probably incorrect.

What is the white one?

Played around making pens a little this week.  Today was thrift store day.  Nothing struck my fancy but did enjoy looking.

Tonight we will take our daughter Elizabeth out to dinner. Tomorrow morning my wife has a carnival going on at her school so she will go help out a few hours while I go do some errands. In the afternoon my wife and I will drive our daughter to Los Angeles International Airport and drop her off as she will be flying to Israel and will be coming back home the following Saturday. She has friends living in Jerusalem who will pick her in Tel Aviv and bring her back to Jerusalem. Her friends that will pick her up are her old Youth Pastor and his wife. She will be doing a few tours through a service and the rest of the time she will be walking in and around Jerusalem where Jesus walked. Elizabeth is doing this trip solo as she wants to explore things on her own at her own pace. Her old Youth Pastor is going to baptize her in the Sea of Galilee. I baptized her when she was in Elementary school but she is now 25 years old and wants to do it again in Israel. So this coming week my wife and I will be true "Empty Nesters" .

Projects are done, nothing really going on except clean up.    Usually take a week or so off from project building to refurbish the toys that were used.  Just thenormal way the shop runs

I have heard a whine before..." I just don't have the TIME to fiddle with  refurbishing, maintaining tools.."    I MAKE time, by taking a vacation of sorts between any  project builds.  Edges need to be sharpened, planes need cleaned up.  Saws that need work, will get that seen to.   This way, when the next project starts up, all the tools will be ready to go to work.

Been cleaning saws that  ave hung around too long.   Will see IF any need sharpened up.  Chisels can use a touch up, might as well do that, as well..

But...today is a "day off" for me.  Haven't even went to the shop today, even.   Hey, it IS a FRIDAY, right?
