February 2, 20179 yr Been substituting the last two days at the local Vocational School. I'm no longer used to standing up all day! We've had some really nice conversations, about woodturning, here at the Patriot this past week. We've all had those spots that no matter how hard we try or how many times we sharpen the tools- they just won't smooth out. Well, Patriot member Cliff came up with a novel way of getting rid of that tear out. He used a card scraper, at low RPM's, to work it out- Here's a link to his post- http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/topic/19023-there-was-this-spot-where-nothing-i-did-would-solve-for-the-tearout/#comment-95186. While you are watching what he does, take notice to the awesome dust/chip collection device he built. Patriot member Steve Krumanaker posted his really cool honey dippers and lids. Making the dipper an integral part of the lid really cuts down on the mess! Member Ron Altier has been experimenting with his shop made chatter tools. His turnings are really super- Check out his chucking technique- http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/topic/19044-working-on-technique/. I had intended to do this on a more regular basis, but you know where the road paved with good intentions goes... "Rick Turns" puts together a monthly You Tube video containing a list of all of the woodturning videos posted on You Tube for the month. Quite an undertaking! Here is the one for December 2016- Safe Turning

February 2, 20179 yr Nice post Lew. I have tried Cliff's technique without much success before. Maybe it is time to try again. I like the extra adornments on Steve's honey lid dippers. It is nice to see these posts highlighted so they get a second look.
