January 27, 20179 yr Some practical, some not...I see some structural weakness in some of them. Several are decorative, only. All were fun to look at...thanks Herb.
January 27, 20179 yr Popular Post Some of those would be good joints for the board stretcher post from earlier in the week.

Also makes you wonder what is inside that joint when you look at one assembled. Herb
January 27, 20179 yr Very interesting. Japanese woodworking is fascinating, especially their joinery. Thanks, Herb.
January 27, 20179 yr WOW! Some of those are really neat. I would not have the patience or the skill for most of them!

January 27, 20179 yr Two comments: A friend of mine did a box with blind dovetails recently. He said, "Never again." If the Asians can make joints like this, why are the Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesians, Malaysians, etc. just stapling together crappy furniture?

You pay for craftsmanship and crappy furniture is just that...crappy and cheap.

Herb IDK personally ...closest I ever came to it besides what occasionally grows in the wild around here was during a training session for supervisors at work conducted by the Indiana State Police... I've seen pictures (and knew farmers) who grew hundreds of acres of it from the late 30's through the end of WWII used to make hemp rope...told me they made pretty good money raising and selling to DOD during WWII.

January 28, 20179 yr During the 40s, raw hemp was transported by rail through southern IL. Lots of seeds fell along the tracks. In the 70s, you'd see lots of folks harvesting all along the tracks. I guess the authorities got wise because, eventually the RR companies began spraying 2-4 D. There were reports of some kids getting pretty sick. As has been said before, "Ya can't fix stupid."

Herb You mean I'm NOT alone? All my money went for fishing tackle..... none left for pot, even IF I had wanted it! John
