Go over to Lumberjocks and look at the post I did this morning of the pictures I did of the knots. Nothing beats this group from the big rigs on down to the wish I coulds, but the way they have organized the site so a person can tell a story with lots of pictures but still keep it all close seems more efficient for the programmers and the learners. There they only have one large picture at a time. The ones not being viewed are there to see but not taking up lots of room. Smallpatch here, Halfacre there.. Lots of the private questions over there is how did you do or what comes next or why this or that.

I think the large pictures here are great over what Woods smaller sizes were for a person to see how things are done by the builder but all pictures don't have to stay that large, only when clicked on is okay.

My question , is it way more trouble for you to add some of their tricks or leave it alone...

Great suggestions Jess,

When you upload images to the topics and posts, you can resize them by double clicking on the image if you want them smaller, before you finish editing the topic you created. You can also justify the images left for a nice word wrap.

They will appear small as you like, then when clicked on, they will be normal size.

Does this address your suggestion?

On th e LJ site, the images are a bit larger to begin with. Then you can zoom for a larger one. When you zoom, the picture is nearly the size of my Kindle 10" screen.

I have not been to LJ's Gene, too busy over here. What are your opinions of how the images are rendered here? Thanks.

Very good. At least as good as the guy's skill in photography allows.

No translator, it's dummy text we developers use for example paragraphs, you can see it here at http://www.lipsum.com/

My opinion on this is that LJ's makes it a little more difficult to upload images (one at a time) and you are limited to 6 images for the initial project upload. If you want to add more images you must do that in the comments section. Some of their members pre-process their images so that they can show all of the steps in a project, within the comments. Typically their members use blogs for a project for which they want to show lots of pictures. That still requires a "one-at-a-time" upload.

At one point, LJ's cropped any image over 640 pixels wide. not sure if that's still in effect.

If all you are after is just enlarging an image, temporarily, there is an extension called "Hover Zoom+" that will instantly enlarge images that appear in a browser. I believe there is a version for each browser. I know it works well with Chrome.

Lew, Jess is wondering if images could be smaller, not larger. Then when you click on the smaller image, it enlarges. I showed Jess an example above. We can manipulate the size of our uploaded images on the fly here, giving you total control how your topic or post looks. We do not have an image size restriction here, so our editors (you all) have full control over how your topic appears.

No it doesn't address my question. Go and click on to my knot picture. It takes you to a larger picture with the other five shots of some of the steps I made in getting to the final finished item. They are in the background but if a person is not interested he can forget this and go to someone elses pictures. Some are interested in seeing more shots steps in the precess where some guys could care less but they are there in the background, click on them or not.

Jess, please provide a link to your knot picture. Thanks!

No, I don't care what size they are, its more important that more pictures are there in the background of the thing the person was interested in the first place. He don't have to do anything for he can make his mind up to see more shot or not. No more clicking is needed to decide what he wants to do....

Understood Jess, it appears to be a great suggestion, but if you could provide a link to what you are talking about I'd greatly appreciate it. That way I don't have to go through LJ's and find ya.:)

I never frequent LJ's so I have no idea what you are referring too or where your post or topic is, thanks a heap Jess!

That's it John.

The first two guys ask some questions. As I am typing a reply I can explain to look at a picture as they are all six pictures in the same shot so they as I am looking at the same picture, or the same group so yes a person can get exact in asking and explaining and not having to stop and try to find the picture he is talking about so we can get on the same page. Its just like here, someone ask a question and someone says hey without a picture you questions are no good. So as I explain, look at the top picture with some pieces laying out of the box, see the numbers in the bottom of the box. You have to have a system to remember where small pieces go. With this six picture set up LJ uses lets me explain and know if anyone is receiving what I'm trying to say. They can see the picture I want them to see and at the same time click on it and it gets big enough to spot small items I might be talking about.

Jess, you can duplicate that effort by creating your project in the gallery instead of forums, you can provide as much detail as you want regarding the project, and upload your images, and you can even add in-depth descriptions for each image you upload. Once you submit the project, you'll see individual thumbnails as well.

For example you can see a gallery I created for veterans awards, to the left of the gallery you'll see a description I added.

Just like in LJ's, you can see some of my projects I submitted by going to my page at http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/profile/1-john-morris/

and click on the "Albums" tab.

Perhaps if we named "Albums" to "My Projects" it would be more clear in its intent.

Let me know Jess if this fits the bill.
