December 24, 20169 yr So I joined the Army at 17 years old and now I am retired after 25 years. Therefore, I wasn't old enough to register before I went into the Army. When I look at federal jobs announcement it says those born after 1959 have to be registered with the SSB. I am old and disabled, do I have to register?
December 24, 20169 yr That's a good question. Maybe this will answer your question https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Who-Must-Register/Chart
December 24, 20169 yr Well who would'of thunk there be a website for that. I should have thought about that first. I will go to my room without dinner. Thanks @lew

December 24, 20169 yr The selective service simply never crossed my mind. I was too busy having fun jumping out of airplanes and getting shot at.

December 24, 20169 yr @Grandpadave52 There were a few times I thought the same thing. But sometimes you just have to keep moving forward. If you gave me a parachute today I'd strap it on and take that step out the door without a problem. Besides, I got paid a little extra.

December 24, 20169 yr On a heartening note, the day my oldest daughter turned 18 in January of this year, she asked if I could go to the post office with her and pick up a selective service form. It was un-solicited, she just asked me to go with her out of the blue. I have opinions about women in the military, in combat, but hey, what could I say to my own kid, except, "I'll drive, and I'm proud of ya kid". Millennial's aint all bad.

Adding on to it all, I am remembering what she said before we left to the Post Office, I told her, you know kid, you can do this online these days. And she said "Naaa, that's too easy dad, it just doesn't feel right". Hoooorah!!!!!! A righteous mission is never easy!

December 24, 20169 yr Just now, lew said: And besides, she got to use the car It's funny, at that time, hard to believe Lew, but she was not driving yet. She started to drive last spring, a couple months after her 18th birthday. Just never got around to it! I regret it to this day we did not start her earlier, our insurance is sky high! If we would have started her when she turned 16, our insurance would have come down by now, but hey, hind sight is what?
