December 6, 20169 yr I gotta say mounted in my angle grinder it's ferocious. Smooth (no grabbing) aggressive and it is Frightening. I would like a switch that stops NOW when there is no finger pressure. I talked to a guy who carves for a living and he showed me his left hand where the cutting edge got all 4 finger joints. It cut down deep and they worried about losing all 4 fingers. He healed and seven months later he got back to using his left hand again. He said take it slow and hold on and pay attention if I am going to keep using it. I may just have to find another way. Herb Yes, please do - my uncle got his hand cut up by one pretty bad one time- of course it could have been the fact that the other hand/arm was in a cast or the chair seat he was shaping was clamped to a metal stool, or he did not have the guard on the angle grinder. December 12, 20169 yr I think of it this way... Would I ever get my hand that close to a chain saw...? And the chainsaw is travelling a much slower rate of speed... imagine your chain saw revving it up to 30,000 RPM plus...? The slide switch on my Makita has two functions...if I push it on from the front of the switch it locks on...if I push it from the rear of the switch it becomes momentary...maybe yours does the same thing and you might not have noticed...? December 17, 20169 yr Author Well this'll terrify all ya all about as much as it terrified me. I got it to use on the wood lathe. HUH?? yup. I got these 18" winged bowls I'm doing and I had a wonderment if whether I'd get a better finish by bringing the thing up to the work like a turning tool So I tried it. Hand held. No tool rest. Oh my goodness, it was frightening. I think I'm done with that as a concept. But still if I can build a mechanism to operate like the saddle of a machine lathe ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Sometimes I wonder if I spend too much time designing and building gizmos trying to avoid developing certain skills. Well, I have fun doing it so, there's that. I still have the reciprocating machine I built to tooth hand saw blanks because I was too impatient to learn the skill. I made it from scrap & junk I just had laying around. That articulated hollowing tool I made was the result of me feeling inadequate to control the tools inside a larger hollow form. Thing is, they all work.

December 17, 20169 yr @Cliff one time I wanted to grind the head of a 3/4" bolt round so I rigged up my small right angle grinder with a clamp block to mount in my 4 way vise on the drill press and used it like a cross feed on a metal lathe with the drill press. Worked like a charm. I wonder if you could make something like that for your wood lathe like the cross feed with the grinder and the Sir Lancelot ? Herb
