Grandpa Dave, The stopped all future development there years ago. unless it was built at an old location. The infrastructure was maxed. Sewage, water and services full. I loved the place,  Having a brother and his family that lived a few blocks from the beach was nice. I lived in OH then and worked, so I couldn't visit as much as I like.

Ron, It's been 9 years since we were last there, but on the South Beach end, they were building several new beach front properties...most were either duplex or tri-plex...some of those were on property that had not been built previously...in fact we were shocked the first year we saw those where nothing had been prior; maybe those had been grand-fathered, but were not built for a period of time...

We always thought the beach there was the best on the East Coast...water temps in the summer were like stepping in to luke warm bath water...always a nice breeze and much cooler than back in Savannah during June-August.

Did you ever go to the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum near Pooler? What a place...we always stayed near I-95 first night or two, then would move into hotel in the Historic District for next few nights...sometime would go spend a night or two in Charleston, before heading back home loaded with our two cases of peaches and sometimes Vadalia onions. :PAlways spent a day in Beaufort, S.C. too.

Our first trip there was 2002 on a whim...had spent 3 or 4 days in Atlanta and just decided to go to Savannah...we were hooked; last trip was 2008...got to know the area pretty well by then.

Very possible then we were there same day that incident occurred. Who would have ever guessed that?

Any laws they make can usually be revised it enough money is involved. Maybe they increased the size of the services. Maybe Hillary wanted to build there:lol:

Could have been the (2) $25 parking fines I had to pay when the defective parking meters ran out long before the time purchased...whoever heard of parking meters on a beach anyway! <_<

The got me too. It was during the off season and there was NO ONE there, I was the only car parked on that section of the street.

Discounting the last two posts... glad that y'all have visited and hold great memories of Savannah and Charleston.

Although we live about 2.5 hours away from Savannah, we visit a couple times a year.  Our son now lives in Charleston, so I have been seeing quite a bit of that city lately.  We love both places,

:P Cal, while it really ticked me off then, as you can tell, I'm nearly over it by now... Regardless, Tybee Island & Savannah are the secret beauties of the "old" South. Rich American history, tradition, food and hands down, the friendliest people I've ever met anywhere (well 'cept for here maybe).:D

We enjoyed every visit from the Sunday river boat brunches, watching the ships come/go, dolphin tours, excursions off into the low country, or just walking River Street at night. Everyone should experience Savannah at least once in a lifetime...would never regret it. Charleston is great too as well as the drive on US-17, but of the two, I'd take Savannah first anytime. Many, many great times there.

Then my wife found Social Circle, GA...well the Blue Willow Cafe which is heart & center there...made a few trips back home that direction stopping in for the late afternoon serving. :P

For a few years, work took me to Atlanta annually and also to Griffin. Became pretty fluent navigating Hartsfield.

@Ron Altier, just curious if you are still dabbling in these works of art?

I have not made any models for a long time. My ornaments are my main hobby. My wife has her crafts too and the house is getting cluttered...........I'd never tell her that.
