Featured Replies

Good morning, errr, good afternoon Patriot Woodworker's! A tad late today with this weekly topic. But better late than never in this case.

What have you been up to this past weekend? What do you have planned for the week ahead? We want to know, we want images, and we want you to tell us what you got cooking!

New Permanent Topic

What's on Your Workbench?

The above topic will be a permanent feature in our community, we would like to encourage all to snap a shot of your workbench, today, and everyday if you want, to show us what you have on your bench! Or what you don't have on your bench! Take a shot, load it up, no text, text, don't matter, we just want to see your bench!

Speaking of benches

Please drop by @Gerald's topic on his beautiful workbench build at BenchPIP.

'Rack Saw-bench with Self-acting Top'

Circular saw ripping sawbench. The saw in this case remains fixed, but the sliding table moves past it on rollers, carrying the log with it.

Note the lack of splitter, not unusual for this period.

Did not get any shop time this weekend, so my goal is to pass on MNF (don't really care for either team anyway) and get out there and continue to work on the router table storage. When that is finished, I will trim out the other storage unit I did for my router bits and what not.

And, I need to snap a photo of my bench and post it, if I can find my bench

Got a little shop time this weekend. Finished up some segmented plywood ornaments which I posted in the turning forum. I also posted pictures in a FB group I belong to. A few people there expressed an interest in seeing a video on gluing up the blanks for the  globes. So, I shot a quick and dirty video of my process yesterday morning, then I edited and uploaded it after lunch. Today, we had three of our grand kids all day and I had a couple shop "helpers" most of the afternoon, seriously affected production for sure. Memories are made of these.

Steve

Got some shop time in yesterday.  Worked at making some string tops.  Got them to work nicely after a couple tries.  The whole story is in the Turning Forum under "String Tops" thread.

Nicely done Dan, what kind of tips are those? They don't look anything like what I suggested :) That's ok too, as long as they spin, that's what counts.

packed up the kids and sent them on their way w/ the horses...

went and caught a pair of cut throats for supper..

had the last of the spaghetti for lunch...

WHEW!!

it's now nap time..

As for what I did this weekend, I re-finished a couple of my older duck calls (Arkansas Magnum double reeds) Which I do not have images of on this computer. I also made a Whitetail deer grunt call. The first one I ever made, so it's pretty basic. Still, with the curly walnut, it looks great, and sounds even better.

Sorry if hte images look fuzzy, I was trying to show grain detail and I guess it didn't work so well.

Well over the weekend and today I got the office almost finished. All the bead board is up, light is hung, Walnut and Cedar wall is finished and today I got the Walnut floor down. All I like in finishing the office is moulding and I should get that done tomorrow. Then I can move into it and get the stuff for the office out of the shop and I will be where I can put the shop back together.

Now I'm headed in to clean up and park in the recliner.

I've got some nice things that go on the walls.

Spent most of my shop time in the yard. Had a tree guy in to cut some high limbs. I halled my cut limbs to the street and did that again this A.M. Got the wings and halos glued onto the angel ornaments. Started finishing with lacquer spray today and drilled for hangers.

really like what you've done John...

Got almost all the mowing done except for part of ditches & roadsides. Planned to do that today, but since it was Columbus Day took the day off ;) and played in the garage sharpening some planes and doing some refurb. Weekend also got daughter/SIL's van serviced (oil, filter, fluids, chk. tires etc.) and replaced the battery. Shuttled grand-daughters on Sat...Mowed off the corn stalks in the garden, serviced the tiller and some tilling done. WIfe's weekend to work, so kept dishes & laundry current

Thanks Charles.  I made those tips on my metal lathes.  I used some brass candle stick stems I had on hand.  they don't have a catch for the string.  If you look real close I incorporated a catch for the string in the wood right above the tip.  Here is a picture with string wound on one.
