The probably get extra credit if it is right. Or is it right? Ah, how true. The old man taught me how to use a slide rule long about the 3rd or 4th grade. Made me a tad unpopular when I had the answer before my classmates could work the problem out longhand. Then my oldest brother bought me one of the first four function Texas Instruments calculators. I don't know what it cost him (he was in college at the time) but he remembered it being pricey (early 60's). Now the answer is just a click away for these kids. However, I have to ask, at what cost? They can't make change, do simple math functions in their heads, or even understand how the answer is derived. Report

October 5, 20169 yr comment_77484 Nope! heavy on the math and sciences. School is 12 months out of the year. and depending where in Europe, you are High School is five years, not four. Most Europeans speak two or more languages...fluently. Those who don't perform in school are directed to the trades and not to college. Here, everyone is college material. Can't read, write, do math, understand sciences, know history, geography or even simple civics. Yet off to college they go...only to get out and learn to say, "would you like fries with that"? Report

Now the tax payer is supposed to pay it so they are still the winner. Dumb as that may sound or they may be. Report
