Friday, Sept 9th, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Featured Replies

Is it just me or do the weeks just seem to be flying by? Here we are at another Friday and official Fall is just a few days away. You wouldn't know it here, it is still in the 90's each day, but we have had a break in the humidity this week.

I've been working inside the shop most of the week. I have all the insulation up in my office room and all the wall plugs wired. About ready to start with putting up wall covering in that room.

Yesterday I got all the plug boxes in and wire run to the plugs in the finishing room and all the insulation up.

And I started putting up the 1/2" plywood that will go on the walls in the storage room.

So I hope to get more of this finished up this weekend.

It is coming together but I am a slow worker, not near as fast as Fred's crew.

But what is on your agenda this weekend. All of us here at TPW love to hear and see what you are working on for the weekend.

Post those pictures and share with us your plans.

Have a happy and safe weekend and spend some time in your shop!

John's addition is moving right along.  If he doesn't slow down we won't have anything to work on together.  That brings me to what I'm working on.  Next week, my bride and I will be headed to beautiful Moodyville in NW Alabama to help my good friend out.  Something tells me that I'll get to help shingle.

Fall is prime festival season in Indiana so no shop time this weekend.  Tomorrow afternoon will be a Covered Bridge Festival afternoon but tomorrow morning I'll be at In-laws and Outlaws Gun Shop.  They are having a 4th anniversary sale and I hope to snag a "deal" on a new AR.  I have to buy it before the election.  Never can tell what will happen, y'all.

You got that right!

Nice progress on the shop, John.

For me, I hope to get some more done on that optical illusion cutting board

Boy, your shopmis sure looking nice with some great progress made.

Ron, I hope can find the deal you are looking for on an AR. Luckily, I have two already so I am good, for now

My plan is to be the shop to finish up the router storage/bit storage cabinet. Maybe a start a new project. Will havr to see what pops up

According to the Noon news, forecast is for heavy rain this PM through Sat PM. When/if it drys, shop time will be servicing mowers and mowing/sweeping lawn. Should time allow, picked up a deal at Habitat for Humanity Restore on resized solid door to convert into work table. Also hit a couple of flea markets on Wednesday when in the "Emerald City" so have some cleaning of stuff from that. Buy included piece of 1/2" thick glass; need to build a frame for that to be used as surface/sharpening plate. Maybe I can get a couple of block planes refurbished???

Edit add: Oh yeah, forgot, youngest grand-daughter has 8th grade round-robin volley-ball tournament tomorrow. Have to have her at the middle school before 7:30A...oldest grand-daughter has varsity football practice at 8A.

Shop addition coming along nicely John. As for the AR's Ron/Kelly on my wish list, but probably a 9mm will be first...want a new " 12ga front passenger seat rider" too.

Safe travels to all traveling. Reminder Sunday is 15th anniversary of 9/11. Time to teach & remind our children & grand-children of the atrocities of that day!

Amen, Dave.

Well, let's see, where to start. I've mentioned in the turning forum a couple times that I haven't been able to turn for a couple weeks. Didn't want to make it too public but it was because we were in FL visiting LOML's family. Spent some time down on the lake(Okeechobee) watching alligators, drinking beer and just enjoying family. The last few days were spent at Jacksonville beach with her brother and his wife, we just really have a good time together. Ate LOTS of great seafood and laughed all the time.

Now, we are back home, A local bee farm sells my mason jar honey dippers and the lady messaged me that she needs some more. Fortunately I had some made, then she told me she wants 100-120 of them for next years state fair. AWESOME! May have to put ornaments on the back burner for a bit.

I did get my eggbot and hopefully this weekend I'll assemble it and start experimenting, really excited about some ideas I have about that.

Our wood turning club meets the first Sunday of the month but since it was a holiday the meeting is this Sunday, excited about that as I thought I was going to miss it. One of my favorite things is attending that meeting, seeing what other turners are doing and watching the demo.

Last, and this is important. We must remember that in just two days it's the anniversary of 9-11 and what happened on that day. Remember those who lost their lives both tragically and heroically. It's also important to realize we are  no less being attacked today than we were that day, only in different ways.

Steve

Sunday, we will be remembering that terrible day. The hurt and anger hasn't diminished a bit. We'll be remembering those that perished in the towers and the brave men and women who risked their lives and those who lost theirs....and their families. God bless them all.

As for shop time, I'll be building yet another foot stool. The finishing department is about out of work. Gotta get her something else to finish. Then, maybe start on a pair of rifle display cases.

I would like to see this project as your progress with it.

About 5 or 6 weeks ago I had about 600 bf of Eucalyptus milled into lumber.  It's been stacked and stickered at my Dad's house and I'm anxious to see how it's doing so planning to go to his place and check it out.  I need to replace the jumble of plywood and OSB I used to cover it before we get into the rainy season which hopefully, will be soon and plentiful for us here in Sacramento valley.  The last time I checked the lumber I was see quite a bit of checking and cracking.  The sawyer had never cut up Eucalyptus and my local lumber supplier had never seen any so we don't know how this is going to turn out.  May be some expensive firewood but will wait till next year to see.  Randy.

OK, Kelly. "Start" means pulling the lumber. Actual construction my be a month away. And, I'm slow.

One case will be pin oak. The other will be Russian Olive. Debating joinery right now. Maybe box joints on one and splined miters on the other. They are going two different places so they need not match.

They'll be French fit with Kiazen foam covered with (blue? red? purple?)velvet.

No Worries - I plan several months in advance sometimes before I get started on a project myself.

Starting to blow off some dust in the shop and getting some things organized to start doing some work again. The past couple of years have been a bust to get much done with all the various family stuff getting in the way (medical issues & surgeries, loss of family members, etc.). My wife Tami has been gimpy since April as she was having a lot of hip pain so we were in and out with the various speciality doctors to nail things down. In June on the last day of the school year (Tami is a Moderate/Severe Special Education Teacher dealing with K-1st children with autism) her right hip crunched and popped and she was in a lot of pain. She finally got total hip replacement surgery done about 4 weeks ago on her right hip and is now moving a lot better, but will still be off work until November most likely. So now that she is moving better I can start doing some stuff in the shop and getting some things done that have been sitting on the side lines.

I went and picked up some Poplar boards to start working on a new Adirondack Chair prototype that has been on hold for awhile. A couple of years ago I came across a guy online whose work I saw in one of my "Arts & Crafts Home" magazines. He sells a lot of Adirondack style chairs, benches and tables to the high-end market as well as other style pieces. ( http://celeski.com/gallery/gallery.html ) So I started to look for plans that were similar to what he was doing and I came across the exact plan that he based his chairs on at a Woodcraft store in a "Project Book". The guy uses the same basic design and then changes up the backs and arms to make different series. So I had started to make up pieces about 2 years ago and then it all got tossed on the shelf for later. So now I am pulling down the pieces from the shelf and getting ready to start it up again. The"Project Book" has a number of other great projects that I have "Dog Eared" the pages on that I want to do when I finish up with the chairs.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

I am actually going to get on the lathe this weekend and try doing some things, Mini birdhouses or whatever. I may also do a few ornaments to get started on holiday things.

I just saw the add and they have two different DPMS ARs.  The stock model is $489 and the one with a quad rail and sights is $559.  I may have to wheel and deal because I want the quad rail but I want to put red dot sights on it so unless the sights fold down, I'd have to remove them to add a red dot.

I started today to play some more with the band saw I made the cart for yesterday.  Started making the fence for it today.  Hoping it will come out good.  Using aluminum and if all goes as planned it should be useable by tomorrows end.

You guys are lucky, our attorney general (MA) pulled a sneaky switch to the law banning all dealers from selling AR rifles with only one days notice. Her action is being challenged but I don't think it will go anywhere. I never really wanted one until I am told I can't have one.

Just trying to get a table done.....

I have my name on one to pick up tomorrow.  I'll walk out with it same day.

DPMS makes a nice AR! I am sure you will be happy with it.
