Then I take back what we said about the OS being outdated from the beginning, since your issues with the chat. It's not your OS, it's the shades of color. Thanks Stick

Yes sir...

light gray is at the top of the list in difficulty to see....no clue that it's there...

no clue about my issues on the chat function...

Stick, if you could see the little arrow to the top right of the reply box, the little arrow that would take you back to the post you quoted, so you could continue reviewing the posts from there, would that be a fair compromise?

Let me start with this one, awhile back we were requested from a few of our new members that our posts numbers were to few per page, we had 15 per page, so we kicked it up to 25 per page, are you saying now we have too many per page?

Lord no...

I like 40 and 50 or more posts to a page...

25 is great... I can do 25 w/ no complaints... 25 is way more gooder than 15..

I'm saying that 251 post thread is 26 pages long in the forum's default setting....

5 pages w/ how my settings are set...

w/ the higher settings many threads are only 1 page and easy to navigate...

OK Stick, I completely understand what you are saying here.

Thank you...

Once you reply by quote to a specific post in a topic, after you submit the reply, you are bumped to the end of all the posts instead of taken back immediately to where you left off, Amen?

YES!

So, the answer to that, and I know you are not going to like it, is the arrow to the right of the reply box that takes you back to where you left off at that quoted reply. So you can accomplish exactly what you are wanting to do, but you have to just go one little step and click on the arrow. You are not defaulted back to the quoted post, but you can get there by clicking the little arrow.

now that I know the little arrow and I can find it by highlighting.... we're Golden...

a simple one more step is not an issue... at all... none...

getting back to were I left off w/o a lot of hoopla is a god send...

so more use of the quote function solves the issue...

As far as defaulting, it's not in our core, and there is nothing I can do about it at this time. To make it default is above my pay grade. But, it is an excellent suggestion, now that I pulled my head out of my fundamental orifice and understand what is needed here. So I am creating a step by step "Want, Need" on this suggestion, and I am submitting it to our developers. I'll keep you informed as to the feedback I get.

w/ use of the quote/return function this may not need to go any further....

what else is there that I can/t physically see???

thank you John for everything and putting up w/ me...

Really Stick? You're a sweetheart man, don't worry I won't let the secret get out!

I must admit, if you are new here, you would never see that little arrow. So I am going to work on darkening it up perhaps, and we'll create a legitimate tutorial on quoting posts and using the little arrow.

Web page designers sometimes don't take physical handicaps into consideration when designing the pages. In Sticks case it is a medical issue that has caused optic nerve damage. In others, it may be the the results of other eye issues, such as, astigmatism, color blindness, et. al. I suffer from astigmatism and, also, find gray lettering on a gray background annoying and hard to see.

I had another forum's member that was trying to learn scroll sawing. His optic nerve damage caused everything on a white background to disappear into a snow blind, bright white mess. I ended up working with him to change the color contrasts on the patterns so he could see them. I, also, had to convert several blade charts and other graphics so he could read them.

There is no one size fits all for this, but there are some basics that if avoided can help. Gray on gray is one of them. Most graphic designers and old fashioned printers will tell you that the best contrast for reading is still black lettering on a white background.

Want to see a really annoying contrast...find a webpage that uses a black background and florescent green lettering...EPIC fail!

I've actually seen this Bill, it's is horrible!

We have some color controls here, it is true there is no one size fits all. But with some further research perhaps we can tweak things a tad. This is good stuff guys, we have had a pretty steady group here for a few years now, and we have all become accustomed to the way things are. Having a new set of eyes on our community is really good for our community. So please never feel like you are being a pain in the rear, you are benefiting our community by bringing these issues to the forefront.

Stay vigilant and keep the suggestions coming!

PS: I would much rather have a member come on here, and point deficiencies out, then get angry over them and just leave as a result of. Anything can be overcome.

Thanks for the encouragement, John. I worry about the established membership feeling like the new guy(s) are trying to take over. I assure you, that, is not the case. Not everything follows the same template(s). However, all designs have good and bad features. Little tweaks can sometimes make life better for everyone. Sometimes, the "Forest for the trees", "status quo" situations need to be brought up.

I find that a lot of folks wouldn't say 'Sh*t if they had a mouthful', but that doesn't mean that things can't be improved for the benefit of all. Sometimes, we just learn to live with the things that don't work instead of trying to change them.

I have come to love the software package that you use to drive the forum. It is pretty well thought out and is very functional. However, like all things, there is always room for some improvements.

I'm sure there is my friend.

One of our surveyors at work, is color blind to an extent, he cannot see too well the blues and greens in the world. So I am very nervous driving with him when he comes to an intersection with stop lights! I guess it's not too bad though, it could be worse, he could've had an issue with seeing reds! :o

Stick, I am taking this seriously here, I'll be occupying some time researching the issues color challenged people have in their sight. And see if we can find a happy medium.

Not only will this have an immediate benefit here, but keeping our core principals in mind, we need to take this into consideration.

Let me explain, we are of course a woodworking community first, always have been always will be. But we have an underlying motivation as well, we are ardent supporters of our disabled veterans who gave much to secure the very freedoms we take for granted every day in our great nation. And within those disabilities also lies blindness of course.

Part of my own personal decision to license this specific software over the others, is because after research on screen readers and how they interact with different websites and community platforms, I came to the conclusion that the company that produces this software actually created a relatively friendly platform for screen readers. The way it is laid out, the structure, the default text and so forth. I kept this on my own priority list for software because of the good possibility we could have some veterans on here who have lost sight during the wars, the very veterans we are wanting to help. We had a regular on here for some time by the name of Mark Wilson (Army Veteran who lost his sight in an unfortunate shotgun accident), he was 80 percent blind, and he got around here really nice, he commented how easy it was for his software to navigate our community. So that sealed the deal, I knew we had made the right choice.

We also had Marine Veteran Timothy Fallon who lost his sight in Marjah Afghanistan by an IED explosion who navigated our community with success. So I really knew we made the right choice.

So making a longer story even longer, I am very sensitive to the disabilities some of our members may have. This is the first time color blindness has popped up, so with that, perhaps there may be some subtle changes that can be made to better accommodate this category of disabilities. Bill is right, it's hard to find a common ground for all, but one must at least make a grand effort, and I will.

Thanks for being here.
