same for threads that become very active in a flurry of postings from simultaneous multiple posters...

hence keeping up is cake and pie...

this function works out very well...

 

Agreed Stick, I'll be looking into this, I like the disections you all have given our community, we now have a different set of eyes on our forum, thus different demands, it's good, "Forwardever, Backwardnever"!

I agree that something is needed to help track post.  For instance there was one the other day that digressed quite a bit from the original post and it was hard to follow since ALL of the replies were in listed one right after another - Some people were replying to the OP and others were replying to the sidetracked conversation - very confusing

Ok gents, the "Quote" is used as the reply. There is no "Reply" per se for a post within a topic, not an actual "Reply" button. But there is a reply function, and that is the "Quote" function that is available in each post.

It works the same as "Reply" but it is just called something else. A great thing about quote, is when you are quoted, and you are notified you were quoted, you can click on the notification and be taken directly to that quote. 

I think we are talking the same thing here, it's just called something else. Keep in mind you also have a great feature, click on the plus symbol next to "Quote" and you can quote multiple posts in the same topic, this means you are able to reply to multiple posts in the same topic.

 

what about defaulting back to the quoted post....

Stick, there is an arrow at the upper right of the quote box that you can click to take you back to the quoted post if that helps.

Stick, I hate to say it but I think an outdated OS may be the issue in being able to see some of our intuitive graphics in our community.

The problem is if the person does not 'quote' a post but simply reply. They are 'replying' to the original post but in reality they are replying to another post

Chips, if you simply replied without clicking an action button on the post you want to reply too, would not this be the case for any type of forum software? Don't you always have to click a reply on the post you want to reply too? Or in our case, click on "Quote"?

 it's gray on grey w/o much contrast...  it's a by product of my stroke...

it's the shade of light gray that is about invisible to me as it blends in w/ the white background...

w/o a decent contrast I'm kinda lost..

and you are put at the end of the thread right after you hit submit till you scroll back to where the left off...

now go and reply to post #2 w/o using the quote feature...

same thing for #3 if you want...

call them test 1, 2 and 3...

note what actions you  took to accomplish this...

now do it all over again but do not use the quote feature..

note the differences in navigation..

I think the chair building thread (not to mention the spin offs) went over 600 posts... it went from here's a chair I built to '' different how to ways'' in many shapes and flavors...

if you remember, over at Wood you always defaulted to the post you were replying to whether you quoted or just plain replied... you could always easily continue w/ the flow...

and let's throw a half dozen simultaneous participants into the mix... it happens..

study the screen and where the tabs are... the submit tap is off screen and way way down at the bottom of 6'' of scrolling...

now, in your minds eye (pretend) you want to reply to a post...

in this forum you default to the end of the thread after every post...... always, w/ no way to go back to specifically where you were..

remember you are the new guy w/ questions and recommendations as you read..

that can a boatload of scrolling/searching... it can be a discouraging pain.. (unless you are tenacious by nature)...

and in of all this you are trying hard not to miss new posts and specific replies to your posts that were put up while you were busy typing your reply..

Let me start with this one, awhile back we were requested from a few of our new members that our posts numbers were to few per page, we had 15 per page, so we kicked it up to 25 per page, are you saying now we have too many per page?

OK Stick, I completely understand what you are saying here.

Once you reply by quote to a specific post in a topic, after you submit the reply, you are bumped to the end of all the posts instead of taken back immediately to where you left off, Amen?

 

So, the answer to that, and I know you are not going to like it, is the arrow to the right of the reply box that takes you back to where you left off at that quoted reply. So you can accomplish exactly what you are wanting to do, but you have to just go one little step and click on the arrow. You are not defaulted back to the quoted post, but you can get there by clicking the little arrow.

 

As far as defaulting, it's not in our core, and there is nothing I can do about it at this time. To make it default is above my pay grade. But, it is an excellent suggestion, now that I pulled my head out of my fundamental orifice and understand what is needed here. So I am creating a step by step "Want, Need" on this suggestion, and I am submitting it to our developers. I'll keep you informed as to the feedback I get.
