Strange thing happened

My daughter brought me a cardboard box of free wooden items from a garage sale. Small shelves, etc. All were the same color and in bad shape. She got them for me and I wasn't about to tell her they were junk. My wife liked a couple of pieces and I kept the bigger ones. I was 100% sure they were made of stained pine. So I  cut one piece just for the h(e)ll of it. It was a beautiful soft wood of many colors. I am sure it was made in a far eastern county. I glued up what I could to make another tree ornament.

Anyone know what kind of wood they use. I'm sure it is cheap, it is very soft and probably grows fast.

Judging by the color, I would almost say Ambrosia maple. Beautiful colors whatever it is.

I have never seen any wood like that. I am sure it will be a gorgeous piece. Can't wait to see the finished item.

It is definitely a nice piece of wood.  It reminded me of a piece of wood I found laying on the shop floor where I worked.  I suspect it came from over seas and I kept an eye out for more but never found more.  It was a 2X4 about 10 inches long so I made a winged box with it.

Now that is cool. I have never tried anything winged yet for fear of taking off a finger LOL but I guess I better try it some day soon.

Thanks Charles.  They are noisy and I have knocked a few knuckles.
