I have a pair of earmuffs that have the built in radio which is typically what I use. I really want a pair of the 3M Worktunes earmuffs with Bluetooth. I work for 3M and we give these things away at our plant every now and then and they are awesome.

Another thing, I put signs at both entrances of my old shop...........Knock before entering, I scare easily and can get seriously hurt if you scare me.

With the music on and my concentrating on my work..........I jump badly when surprised. I have thrown things, dropped tools and dropped to a defensive stance. The biggest offender, of course was my wife. At first she thought it was silly of me, but when I explained what could happen, she always knocks on the door. However, now that I am older, sometimes she wakes me as I nap  in that old cuddly chair:)

With that in mind Ron, I set up almost every tool in my shop so that I am facing the door when I am using it. The exception is my table saw. I haven't got any signs on the door, but everyone that comes by knocks before they enter anyway for some reason which I like.

Most will even stand at the door until I turn it off before they will come in. I think they can hear enough of the noise to know I can't hear them. The signs are a very good idea though.

I found this topic and was intrigued. I like to have noise going in the shop no TV . tried the tv and was just a waste of effort. My old setup was a Bose roommate off the Bose Lifestyle in the house. Since then I have digitized over 300 CD's in oldies from 60's and 70's , compilations from Time-Life. Then there is the country going back into the 50's. All this is on an old desktop connected to an amplifier. The amp is connected to a pair of Pioneer floor speakers and a pair of Boston Acoustics hung in the ceiling .

Been thru the door thing and the wife knows, just doesn't always remember.

I have one of those jobsite AM/FM radios Dewalt put out several years ago, but I am thinking of relocating it somewhere else as it is on the corner of my workbench, and workbench real estate is at a premium.  I have a TV that I either listen to one of the music channels on the cable system, or watch a program or game when it is safe to do so.  If what I am doing is "moving-blade intensive", I stick to the music.  I will frequently take my tablet down to my shop, and listen to Pandora on a small Bluetooth speaker, or connect to electronic hearing protectors.  My usual choice of music is classic Rock, and Pandora is usually set to either Blood, Sweat and Tears, or Emerson, Lake and Palmer.  Sometimes blues, or classical when I'm in that mood.

silence is golden...

I have a mid 70's Zenith AM/FM shelf radio; added an extra speaker/jack from old stereo...had it in almost all the farm shops; when I changed careers it came home...Depending on time &/or day, it's on a local Oldies But Goodies Station hits of the 50's, 60's 70's...Friday nights tuned to catch local HS football or basketball;  Saturdays, IU or Purdue football or basketball depending on season, sometimes NASCAR; Sunday afternoons or evenings, local Colts feed,  NASCAR or oldies station.

Still working on the coming up behind me while running any power tool; grand kids are the worse offenders.

In 40 sumpin years of having shops in different locations I never considered music. I think I prefer to hear the sounds of the materials and equipment.

I have a radio in the shop, but seldom turn it on anymore.  Only one (classic rock) station to pick up, and they have repeated the same 50 songs for the last 30 years!  My son has even remarked that he has been away for 10 years but he still knows every song they play by the third chord!

I have a TV in the shop, but the local cable co. (cox) just digitized and I do not have the descrambler out there.  I only turned it on about 4 or 5 times a year anyhow, when UGA football was on...

Lately I have been using my ipod thru a bluetooth speaker.  But even with 500+ songs on it I know every one of them - course I like them well enough...

I hope that I will soon change the location of the internet router to a room closer to the garage.  That will allow me to hook up with Pandora or some such.  Last year when I was remodeling the bathroom I started listening to Pandora and found it very enjoyable.  Periodically I ask my kids what they are listening to so that I can vary my music.  Both of them have turned me on to some really good new music.

My friend in the shop is  Sirius---- along with a  bose radio my kids got for me years ago. Almost always on Willies Classic

It depends, sometimes I will have a CD player on or play the music off my phone. Lately, silence

I've got an AM/FM/CD/cassette stereo right now.  The CD player is crapping out so I'm thinking of upgrading. I'm contemplating going to something utilizing an in dash car stereo and several home made speaker boxes. I listen to hard rock and heavy metal (yeah yeah some thinks its noise). If I get my shop upgraded in a year or two I'll probably pull one of the sat TV lines from the house out to the shop. I like some of the rock music stations I get on it. Dont know if I'll go with a TV but I guess it would be handy for weather, news and maybe to watch when not doing anything dangerous.

I go silent.  I will turn the radio on if not running equipment.

I'm with Stick on this one.   No radio and no TV while i'm concentrating on keeping my fingers.   No wife or kids unless they have on hearing and eye protectors and are actually helping with something.   Too much distraction otherwise.

I have satellite radio get a lot of music or talk channels
