What is in your shop

Featured Replies

I was looking at the pictures submitted of guys shops. Each is unique and tailored to each person. However, I am wondering what your shop has in it for music or entertainment as you work.  I like the older music. I use an old iPad to listen to web music radio stations. What do you have? Anyone  have a TV? Do you have a napping chair? I do. It didn't start out that way. My wife got a free chair, a leather desk, but she didn't like it. I kept it in my shop till we could get rid of it. However, once I sat down in it, it cuddled me like a bear and put me to sleep. Now it is my permanent companion :)

Hey Ron, I have my cell phone plugged into a set of speakers, and I'll play Pandora.

I have an AM/FM/CD player that is hooked up to some Bose speakers hung on th wall. I mostly plug in my iPod and listen to various Blues, Rock and Big Band music for the most part when I am running tools. When I am sanding or finishing I listen mostly to Bible Studies done by Chuck Missler as he has been a favorite of mine for close to 30 years. I also will listen to my Angels play baseball depending on the time of year as well. No TV in the shop or chairs to nap in.

No radio in my shop. Got a chair, though.

Sometimes I'll hook the Kindle to speakers and listen to oldies. Mostly Jazz.

An old 1970's Panasonic tuner/amp hooked up to a pair of $10 car speakers. It's set to the Good Time Oldies station.

Wish I had room for a chair.

Well... since my shop is my living room, I have a couch. Haven't been able to afford chairs. A TV that is usually turned to the weather, or news, or is OFF unless The Blacklist is on, in which case nothing else is being done. On the other side of that is the bedroom, which has my computer. That computer is almost always tuned into Spotify (like Pandora) which is usually playing some sort of 80s music, or a new artist I found a few years ago that I like listening to, by the name of Lindsey Stirling. If you by chance have not heard of her, if you like violin music at all, you'll probably love Lindsey. You can run Spotify directly from Facebook if you have a facebook account.

I don't have any music.  I prefer the quiet.  I even tailor my saw blade purchases around the noise of the blades.  I buy Felder Silent Power.  The others all scream so that I gotta wear ear protection. I'll  probably have a much   more noisy shop when I finally get my DC installed. The machine arrives Wednesday this coming.  They supposedly put a muffler on it  - - we'll see.

Blacklist eh?  That  and Kevin Bacon's "The following" were the tipping point for me to dump direct TV.  Near the end of the last season of  The Following, DTV started letting the networks use that Time Warner technology that prevents you from using fast forward.   Then Blacklist   did it and that broke the camel's back.  I dumped DTV and got the Hopper.  But I don't have it in my shop.

I wonder what the missus would do If I brought my table saw up to the living room?

Wow, no noise at all? I'd go crazy. I have to have either Music or the TV on for noise. I don't watch TV and try to work at the same time, but will stop and watch if something comes up that gets my interest.

I have to have music, my ears were damaged in Viet Nam and ring constantly. Music masks it really well. Strangely when I got hearing aids, the ringing nearly quit. However it has returned since then.

My violinist daughter loves her Charles!

I figured that would be the case John :) , Lindsey is contagious to say the least LOL.  I only hope that Lindsey gets out this way soon, she's on my bucket list of people to see. :)

Mine were damaged apparently by medications and or High blood pressure, and they also ring constantly, maybe that is why I have to have music as well, to quell the ringing/buzzing in my head.

I have an older desktop in the shop and since I'm an Amazon Prime guy, I listen to their Prime Music.  Stations vary according to my mood.

We are Prime too Ron. I had no idea they had streaming music!

Prime is way better than Pandora. Not as good as Spotify but real close.

Charles, when I got my hearing aids, the guy told me all about them and then inserted them. I was amazed, not at the hearing, but the ringing stopped. Both ears were quiet for the first time in 50 years. WOW!!  I was told that it could be temporary or permanent. It did come back, but has been greatly reduced due to me hearing all other sounds better.

Thanks Ron, mine isn't REAL bad most of the time, but there are times where, I have to ask people to repeat what they said 3 or 4 times before I finally get what they said.

I used to just listen to the radio, but I got to spending so much time in the shop I installed a wall mount TV and hooked it to an amp with speakers in various places so I can hear it when the machines are running. I have Directv so I can listen to music or have it on a channel depending on what I am doing.

I like having the TV during football season. I don't watch all of the game as I pay attention to what I am doing, but if there is a big play they always replay it so I can stop and watch the replay. Also when sitting at the drum sander sanding 10 or 15 cutting boards through three grits, it makes the time pass better to be able to watch a little tv while the pass under the drum on the belt.
