February 26, 201610 yr I really like the technical side of his tool use videos and often refer to them in the "Wednesday's Wisdom..."

We,ve had a pretty open policy since we started, no worries, we have no egos, and no control freaks here.

February 27, 201610 yr Gee todd. I got odds that say you'd agree with the sentiment that says "one can never have too many routers." Just sayin Interesting video. I gotta wonder about the electrical connection between the person and the glove. I would not have imagined that there'd be sufficient contact to trigger the thing. Especially given that the surface of that particular glove was a polymer.

Cliff, watch the video again closely at the point of contact and then the glove being shown. The saw cuts all the way through the glove and touches the hotdog, the hotdog set the brake not the glove. I thought the same thing too, until I did see there was contact made with the hotdog.

February 28, 201610 yr I saw a video of a guy without gloves and I cringed when he stuck his finger in it. It worked he did get a cut big enough to bleed. He went VERY slow. If you slip with force, I think it would do a lot of damage.

Especially given that the surface of that particular glove was a polymer. The tooth of the blade has to get through the glove first and then when it makes contact with the skin is when it triggers. My big question was how far would it drag the hand in before it triggered the brake. A good friend of mine was wearing gloves just like that one in the video and his Powermatic table saw caught the glove, dragged his hand in and cut 3 fingers off and damaged a 4th. I provided the glove for the demonstration from my own shop.
February 28, 201610 yr I saw this saw ( no pun intended ) in actual use by the CEO several years back when they first came out. He was NOT wearing gloves and he stuck his hand right in to the spinning blade and before it did more than scratch his finger the blade was jammed and retracted. Wearing gloves while using a table saw or a lathe is not a good thing. I have been always taught that safety is the primary consideration and gloves and jewelry around rotating machinery is definitely not a safe thing to have on. Personally I like the idea that the blade gets stopped and yanked back before it does any serious damage. There would be more damage to my shorts than my hand should that happen.
