Ron Altier Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) I just finished this small table for my wife. She chose the woods and dimentions. It is Purple Hart and Bettle kill Pine. She didn't care about the design and left it all up to me. I put the legs on 45 degree angle to the corners and carried the wood theme down the legs too Edited January 19, 2016 by John Morris added tags steven newman and Gerald 2 Quote
Courtland Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 A fine piece indeed, I love the contrasting colors Ron, very beautiful. I love when my wife just gives me artistic freedom on something. The project is so much funner. Nice job. What is bettle kill pine? Quote
Ron Altier Posted January 19, 2016 Author Report Posted January 19, 2016 The Pine beetle killed millions of pine trees in lots of places. They can still use some of this wood. However the tree grain has darkened and appears slightly green like Poplar. I am happy to see them use it for a good things, instead of firewood Quote

We have a whole forest of it a couple miles from our home. I was scratching my head and trying to figure out, what the heck is bettle? Quote
John Morris Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 Ron I added tags for you, they are very important to the search function of our community. I would like to encourage all to use tags in everything they bring to our community, including blogs, gallery uploads, files etc. Thanks Ron! To see the value of "tags" just click on the "pine" tag, and you'll see why they are very important to others. Once you tag your topic or any content, it will be retrievable in the future for others to see. If someone found The Patriot Woodworker and wanted to see all our topics related to "pine" all they would have to do is search for pine and your discussion along with many others tagged "pine" would be retrieved. Tagging your content paves the way for future users to benefit from your content. Thanks Ron! Gerald 1 Quote
Ron Altier Posted January 20, 2016 Author Report Posted January 20, 2016 John, I can see where tags can be a good thing. However, making them a required entry for submission is a bad idea, in my opinion. If I was confused, so will others be. However, I didn't give up, nearly did, others may just quit and go to another woodworking site. Quote
John Morris Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) I have said from the beginning Ron, it's not easy being a Patriot Woodworker. We are here for our veterans and active duty and disabled. We ask of our members many things throughout the year, we ask you all to participate in veterans events, fund raisers, raffles, and much more in the name of our disabled veterans. The demands of being a Patriot Woodworker can be daunting in comparison to being a member of other communities. We want folks here who have a shared interest in the welfare and well being of those who served our nation and paid the price. Our goal since day one has been to be here for them, thus our ranks may be small because not every woodworker shares that philosophy. We are here to have fun sure, and to learn and help others in the joy of woodworking, but ultimately we are a community to benefit veterans and a few veterans organizations. This is why I have often borrowed from the Marines one of my favorite ways to describe our community, "The Few, The Proud, The Patriot Woodworkers". I am ok with our size, what I love about folks here is the quality of folks we have, you guys are the greatest. Numbers don't mean much to me, they truly don't. I don't get paid one thin cent for doing this, all proceeds are socked away to pay for our growing expenses, and to help our disabled veterans any way we can. I get paid exactly the same as you for being here. We are an all volunteer community. If folks want to walk over something like, "Tags" then that is their prerogative, I hope folks don't walk over something like "Tags". But, it is what it is. This is not at all directed at you Ron, nor anyone for that matter, like I said we have some great folks here! But for others who may be peeved at "Tags", all I ask is you give it a chance, let it sink in and try to see the benefit of it. See yall on the forums! And, thank you guys for being here and contributing, after all this is your forum, and we will listen folks, and we do. I do. And if it becomes a major pain in the rear for everyone, we'll revisit the issue, I promise. Edited January 20, 2016 by John Morris Quote
