Thank you....

Where can one buy the coated burrs like the ones in the above picture?

Lee valley has them and I think woodcarvers.com has them.

Just type in "typhoon carving bits" in Google.

It took me around an hour to find the one's like in the picture above.

I found out why. Kutzall made the one's above but thats the old style.

the new ones today all look different.

What system are you using to grind with? And what size carvings are you doing? I've seen a lot of bits from the small ones for Dremel to the large ones for grinders.

I'm still in the learning stage. Most of my carving is fixing damage spots

on live edge benches. I use 1/4" Dewalt die grinder with file bits and I

use 4" Dewalt side grinders with the 4" chainsaw wheels and I use a

large 6" Black&Decker grinder with 12 grit sanding disc's. I want to get

into carving more things. I just bought an overhead engraving router.

Kevin everything I do I use the 1/8" bits with the DremelIMG_20191210_121233284.jpg.91d101f3397ea0e2c3929cb5437d3931.jpg and the flex shaft. Its smaller to hold on to and controlling it is better. This is before I added any clear finish. This measures about 10  x 6 or so inches.

About the biggest thing I do is 3 foot long or less. These horses were done using just three or four 1/8" bits.  The horses I finished with about 4 or 5 coats of lacquerIMG_1713.JPG.67c9fb6e00373aef017efc1056e8dda6.JPG

I like the Saburr Tooth bits. No need to buy a whole set. I did when I first started in 2016 learning to carve and I still have not used every bit in any set I have bought...I don't use the light wood real carvers use. I know its easier and quicker to finish a project and I don't own any carving knives just air or electric power and I like maple....If you already have a good air compressor Harbor Freight has two little air die grinders both being right angle drives for 15 to 20 cucks each and I sure like these...They both take 1/4" shaft bits if I ever need that big of a bit. The tools you mentioned are too big and bulky for the carving I do... I do some carving every day and have still not worn these bits out yet...…..hard to believe they last that long but better on the pocket book. The bits might gum up a lot if I was to use them on pine but I don't even like that stuff in my shop for it ruins the sand paper on all the power equipment.

Do post some things you are working on for everyone likes to learn that way.

If you happen to be needing to grind down lots of wood kinda out in the open then this 259845 Wood pulverizer on page 17 down at the bottom of the page will sling wood faster than almost anything and seems to last forever. Expensive yes but it will save many hours of labor.. 1/4" drive.

Wow... Thanks for all the info... My main wood working projects is live

edge benches. I need to clean up old rotten holes and chain saw marks.

sometimes I make a fake live edge when I need to split a log that's to

big for my mill. Here is a few of the backs of benches almost ready for

assemble.

And that's some fantastic work your doing smallpatch....

Here is a place you might look for Saburr burrs.

If you remove lots of wood and want a smooth surface try Arbortech expensive but the carbide lasts a loong time. There are several size and the new ball is intriguing. I have the 4 inch and the two inch and they are lifesavers.

ARBORTECH

Ouch... I just bought this off E-bay... Looks almost the same...

Same as what ?  Arbortec has 4 round carbide teeth and will leave a sand free surface. This looks like the teeth are brazed on like router bits. Let us know what the surface finish looks like.

You probable right. What I got might be good for roughing something out.

Here is a close up of both sides...
