Friday, Jan 23rd, What's on Your Patriot Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

Warm air coming up from the gulf and cold air coming down from the North West, looks like snow in the forecast for North Alabama tonight. But it won't hang around long, will be back up in the mid 50's on Saturday. That's the way we get it, it come and goes in almost a days time.

I haven't been in the shop all week, taking care of my wife after she had some surgery this week. She may about ready to send me to the shop though. Several projects sorta stuck in the middle right now, but I should be able to get back in the swing of things next week.

I have the corner benches made from the church pews done except for some trim and the table is cut out and glued up, just needs all the parts assembled. So we are getting close to getting it out of the shop and delivered. I need a bit of dry weather though to get it out and installed.

I also have a couple of Green Egg tables to build, one standard and one custom. Those may get on the real work agenda next weekend.

So for now I am playing with a new toy, my new Mac Book Pro. I am an Apple person from way back and it is nice getting to know all of the new features that have been put in since my Mac SE days.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and are spending some time in the shop.

Share your Patriot Woodworker agenda with us. We love to see all of the projects other Patriot Woodworkers are working on. No project is too little or too big, we just love to see what you guys are making.

So post them and let us brag on you!

I'll be checking back in later to see what you are all planning for the weekend.

Just finished up a set of pen drilling jaws for a turner friend of mine. Nova has nothing to worry about but they work.

PS- John looks like we'll be shoveling snow here tomorrow :)

My first "map" order of the year came in so I will be building it this weekend.  If time allows, I will start working on new items for stock.

I've been building a lectern from some reclaimed pews the last couple of days.  Tomorrow I'll shoot a couple of coats of lacquer on it.

Nice, Ron!

I really like the way you trimmed the intersection between the column and the base/top. The feet are cool, too!

Those compound angles and the trim are murder Lew.

Those compound angles and the trim are murder Lew.

I'm beginning to realize that. Next week I have to start a similar podium. This one has the top slanted at 15° and the column sides are splayed at 45°. I tried calculating the angles but I think I'm going to end up making a scaled down mock up and do some experimenting.

I've had a handful of the old PO box doors on hand for over a year or so, I'm going to try to get started on some banks made with them this weekend (I hope). A clipper is supposed to hit us tonight/tomorrow, hoping it doesn't disrupt my plans.

I wanted to taper the sides on this one Lew but the customer wanted them straight.  For the record, the top in 16 X 24 and when I made the base I used the 70% rule making the base at least 70% of the top for stability.  In fact, I made the base 13 X 17 but it still seemed a bit top heavy.  That's why I added the feet and it is much more stable.  Something to think about on yours.

This is my rough Sketchup proposal-

Ohhhhh, that kind of angle!  I wanted to taper mine vertically.  I do like the style Lew.  Something to ponder now.  I made a lectern for our Sunday School class and I built one of the shelves so that it would accomodate a laptop.

:(   Time to shoot a vehicle, now the Jeep wants a radiator.

Two weeks ago the water pump in the '86 Mighty Dodge Ram went out. When they looked at it, they discovered the radiator was also leaking- I feel your pain.

I am still reorganizing, sorting and tossing. I have another wall to go. Today I cleaned my vacuums. I have a large whole shop vac and two small ones that are each attached to a sander. What a mess. So I am now planning to use my big vac to do the whole shop and on all machines. Another big idea in a very small area.  :)  :)  :)

Lew,

I just can't get caught up to the 1999 Jeep, and 2000 Ram.

Last month I had to put a break hose and exhaust from the catalytic back on the Jeep.

Thanksgiving night the Ram blew a power steering hose off the cooler and now it needs either a pump or steering box. It now has "Armstrong" power steering.

A rebuilt steering box lists for just under $1200.00. It's been leaking at the pitman arm shaft (common on these trucks), and the whole box has to be dissassembled to replace the seal.

The rebuilt boxes have a viton seal that is supposed to eliminate the seal problem.

Time to trade them both for a Donkey and cart. ;)

On a brighter note, I'll be trying Windows 10 here real quick.

I skipped being a tester for Windows 8.

Well I got a little time to go to the shop and got the Corner Benches for a customer about finished. If all goes good, they will get installed next Saturday.

Got a template made to cut the corner to fit.

So I will get the corner cut close to this and then scribe it when we get there. At the bottom, middle and top the walls are different.

I got the hinges installed on the tops so they will open and they can use the space for storage.

The top is the seat of the old church pews and the front and ends are the backs for the pews. There will be a cushion made for the seat.

I have the table about ready to assemble also. I am sure they will be glad when I get this finished and in place.

Lew I like the design and the Sketchup drawing of it.
