I can come into my shop after work, wind down, run my #8C across a plank of cherry and watch those lovely thin shavings fall to the floor. After about 15 minutes of this, I am ready to go inside and take on the gang, homework with the kids, take my turn cooking for my wife, and just being there for my gang. Life is good with wood in it.

I always feel more alive when I have a project in progress. I'm between projects now and am a little bored. I bet I won't have to be bored much longer as my wife is browsing magazines...

I always had a dream of someday retiring and my own wood shop. It came sooner than I ever expected, due to downsizing and early retirements. I got a sweet deal and was the happiest man on the planet. I had a wood shop in Ohio with all the basic tools I needed, a wood burner in the winter and a large circulating fan for the summer. Hours passed like minutes and days like hours. Soon I had been doing that for 11 years. I now have a downsized shop in Colorado, however I also have grandkids very close and that has changed my wood working some. If you have seen my web site, ronaliter.com you will see many toy projects and I love to do them. Even my band saw scrap box has become a box of wonder for the kids. They find that my unusual scraps are really ducks, dragons and other things that they love to discover.

As you said Life is good with wood in it.

John, I can completely understand what you are saying.

Just yesterday we had a hectic day at work. More problems that I can write about here.

Got home and it was 100 degrees here again today. Took a walk (Dr. says I have to loose weight) came back and went into the shop (hot) and started cleaning up the glue lines on the Cedar Chest. Took out my block plane and it just a few quite minutes had those nice shavings all around and smooth joints in my boards.

Got out my new dovetail jig and got started cutting the dovetails. Left the camera in my office but I will get some pics tonight.

Boy what a difference it made in my attitude. Went in the house spent a few minutes with my granddaughter before bed.

Calmed my spirit.

Thanks for sharing in my thoughts gents. Appears we have all come to the same conclusion, "Life is good with wood in it". And it is even more enjoyable when we can share with you fine gents. Sometimes my wife just looks at me sideways funny like when I get all excited over an old chisel at the antique store, or a log laying on the side of the road. Yet, here, you folks get it, and it nice.

Old topic to the top here, I am moving old topics into our live forums up here from the archives down there, and ran into this fond memory, Gary Keedwell, the Irish man that frequented WOOD Forums before he passed on from cancer.

I still think about ol Gary from time to time.

Almost seven years since the original post, but for a woodworker, nothing has changed. Well, maybe the arthritis is a little worse, but the sense of satisfaction remains!

Well Ron & @John Moody & @John Morris....

Fast forward 6-1/2+ years...from what I've seen on TPW from you three (&others), if anything has changed is you are even more passionate and creative than before; more importantly your passion and balance for your families has grown right along with TPW. Kudos to you all...Thanks for letting me get on board and ride along...
