August 13, 201015 yr While I am working on the cedar chest that is in the blog, I am also working on another of the bow front tables like the one at the bottom of this link.http://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com/Our_Collection/tables.html That one had a leopard wood top. This one will be basically the same but I am using Bubinga for the top. I ran across this piece that was one board about 15" wide and 10' long that had already been dried. I decided it would make a nice top and be one piece. I got the carcass cut out and put together this week along with the top. The holes give me a place to clamp the Baltic Birch that I will kerf cut and attach to the front. Front view Started smoothing the top out with my scrapers. I got some tear out when it was run through the planner. I had to take it to a friends house to plane since mine is only 12" and this is almost 13" wide. It is looking good and will get it smoothed out this weekend. Forecast is for cooler temps and the possibility of RAIN. Will be a good time to be in the shop.
August 13, 201015 yr Looks really good John, let me get this clear, what we are looking at is the actual top you are building? Only you built in the clamp holding holes to make the install of the bow front easier? That is really cool man. I never though of building clamping fixtures into a project like that.
