Happy Birthday Army! The United States Army was established on June 14, 1775, by the Second Continental Congress as the Continental Army, before the Declaration of Independence. It was created to defend the 13 American colonies during the Revolutionary War against the British Empire. The Continental Army later became the Army of the United States after independence was declared on July 4, 1776.
