This Spalted Magnolia hollow form is turned from wood from the old Federal Courthouse in Jackson,MS. The tree was cut down by a subcontractor who was not supposed to do that. I asked my DIL what her favorite color was and got pink as the answer. So I did a light red, then use acrylic paint on the rim for a "crowning " touch. Then we went to visit and I left this in a bag at home. Oh the inside is painted with Black Gesso since spalting was bad enough I could not get a good finish inside so with the black no reflection and difficult to see bottom.

Very nice Gerald! Nice lines.

Your daughter is probably very sad no to get that beautiful vase.  I pull the same forgetting trick more often than I would like to admit.  The mind is always looking ahead instead of the task at hand.

I can't think of anything that can continue to keep history, in our minds, than creating something from a piece of wood with this much background.

VERY NICE.  Since it is very old, I was wondering if the color we see has oxidized and is much darker than original? Its probably more than 100 years.

The color is Chestnut Stain (red diluted about 4 ml in 20 ml alcohol). The rim I did someting unusual on the turning by spliting the bead or in other words I dis a modified vee. Then I painted the vee with gold acrylic paint. So yes I do use paint sometimes.

Thanks for the comments
