This came from a retiring judge's chamber. It's a map of Michigan surrounded by the Great Lakes made completely out of Petoskey stones (It's a Michigan thing). The state is made up of cut stones in the shape of each county. I have no idea how old it is, but it's not a teenager. It measures about 42" across, including the 1 x 6 frame, which is connected to the 1/2" plywood the stones are fastened to. Very very solid! It's going up for auction at the wife's charity fundraiser. I was asked to "clean" it up and make it presentable. Ended up refinishing the frame with acrylic latex house paint from Sherwin Williams and buffed the stones with quartz countertop polish. Have no idea what (if anything) it'll bring, but somebody sure put a lot of time into it originally.

Last year I acquired a sizeable collection of sharpening/honing stones. I've finally decided which ones I'm keeping and the rest are going up for sale (at highly discounted prices). Most of them are new in the box and a few are very lightly used. If any woodworkers you know are in need of some honing stones, let me know. I'd like to get them out of my garage and into the hands of someone who will use them. I've included a picture for an idea of what I have. The system is displaying it upside down, my apologies.

Over the years I've read about sharpening on Japanese whetstones and always cringed slightly when I looked at the cost of a set of them. Besides I have plenty of other ways to sharpen my chisels/plane irons/scrapers/whatever. But on another forum a fellow posted he had a set to gist to someone, it had already been up 10 minutes when i saw it and no one asked for them....so I did. He even paid to ship them to me. The USPS wasn't kind however, and one stove got a small chip in a corner (still in the package), and the opposite side of that same stone was cracked. Regardless, both are still usable, flat as Kansas, and he even gave me the stone holder for use. I've wanted to try these type of stones for some time, now I get the chance. I only know the grrit of one, the one in the holder is boldly printed 800 grit, no idea what the others are....but I'm sure I can find a use for all of them.
