A good article by a friend of mine: https://www.finewoodworking.com/2020/05/13/fair-enough I remember many years ago reading a comment by someone else about competing with the "hobbyist" for products. The comment was that someone who did not have a grasp on time, material, overhead and profit just produced stuff "for fun." The result was an excess of product to be gotten rid of at any price. I've also heard many times about people who "just want to cover their material and save a little for a new tool some day," who really have no idea of the the costs that go into making a product for sale.

I thought this sounded like a good price but wanted to run it by you all for a second opinion. Around 30 minutes from me a guy has some hickory, red oak, white oak and maple. They are all 7” by 9” by 8’ long. He wants $30 each.

I recently finished my 12' X 14' deck, using eastern white cedar decking and Western Red Cedar for railings . Today I went to get the last piece of 2" X 4"X 8' western red cedar for a hand rail. My local lumber yard owner indicated he may discontinue stocking the Western Red Cedar because sales have dropped off considerably since the recent increase in prices. I paid $31.96 for an 8' length of 2X4. That figures out to be $11.60 a board foot .My 2" X 6" X 14' were $96.30 each before the increase. That figures to be about $6.80 a board foot. Prices have almost doubled.

What's up with George Vondriska and Woodworker's Guild of America? I got an offer last week for a year's premium membership for $3 (instead of $36). Couple of days later it was $3.33, then a couple more it was $10. Now DVDs are 75% off. I'm thinking cash flow crisis???
