Penn State Industries keyed chuck has been given some bad reviews over the years. I bought one when I first started turning and still have it. I have used it a lot over the years and it has stood up to the use fine. When I decided to buy a set of Cole Jaws I bought from them since I don't do bowls often and they offer quite the deal. It comes with their Tommy Bar chuck which I have grown to like as the best style chuck for me over the keyed chucks. Here is their offering. https://www.pennstateind.com/store/CUG3418CCX.html?utm_source=Google_Shopping&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=&utm_term=CUG3418CCX&gclid=Cj0KCQiAq5meBhCyARIsAJrtdr70ldWCA_YmLJ606Nrzu2Q_cEi44g6K3bWv-v2lWtTpmg-0b7wwgpAaAksvEALw_wcB I also like the idea of the jaws that come with their chuck sets too. I turned those little bowls and this set of jaws worked great for that. One inch diameter when closed and came with their keyed chuck. I also use them for pens, Yo-Yos, tops and many other items. I found some 4" squares I had saved and decided to turn them into small bowls too but wanted a slightly larger set of jaws and found I had two sets of these that didn't get much use. I cut the small nodes off and was left with a set of 1 1/2" jaws. Perfect. I mounted them on the keyed chuck and the Cole Jaws were on the other. I am thinking another of their Tommy Bar style chucks is in my future. I have three OneWay Talon chucks that I keep different size dovetail jaws on for larger items. They are great too.

I finally fell into a great deal. My friend taught a bowl class at our local Woodcraft. After his class he called me and told me they had some Record Power chucks they were going to discontinue and to call the manager. I went up to see the manager and he didn’t know what corporate was going to let him do so I left my name and number a couple of weeks ago. He called me today and told me what he had. He had three package deals, I only bought two. A RP SC 4 Chuck, 100 mm dovetail deep gripper jaws and a 4” dovetail ring. I got all of that for $74. A SC3 Chuck, 75 mm dovetail deep gripper jaws and 2” dovetail ring for $64. That ended up being around 30% off the jaws and rings and the chucks for free. In the picture the 100 mm is on the left and the 75 mm is on the right.

Ok, between Projects at the moment....took a long look at the vise that has seen so much use...and abuse the last 3 years...or so.. Uummmm, yeah. Managed to dig a "dog" out of the bench.. Had to pound it down out of the bench, in fact. May work on ti as well.. Methinks this needs a new set of jaws...may replace the chewed up end of the bench, while I am at it.. Fingers keep getting little slivers up under fingernails...easy enough to remove... May be a couple more under the jaws. Depending on the next trip to Menard's...about when some 2x cut-offs can be brought home. Metal part of this vise came from a vendor @ Tractor Fest 2015...$10..... Then added a few boards to.. Added a thicker jaw to allow for bench dogs... Grandson wants a Coffee Table, too...wonder IF I can get this vise fixed up, first? We'll see..
