Took a total of 4 saws down to Piqua, OH. There is a sharpening service down there....does good work, too.....usually about $10 per saw. Last trip there, I noticed his ceiling fan...was still running, but..was missing 2 blades.....something about sharpening a garden hoe....handle happened to be in the wrong spot..... Just so happened...I had a ceiling fan still in my van..never even been out of the box.....even had the Light Kit.....I didn't need it....Chuck looked like he could.....we did a bit of "horse-trading"....Sharpen my 4 saws, and you can have the ceiling fan. Had to wait a few weeks....as everyone with a mower ( and no grinder) suddenly needed their mower blades sharpened up....and their hedge trimmers....and....you get the idea.. Finally gave him a call..."Yep, saws are done!" Which meant a 40 mile trip down to pick them up, and 40miles to get back home....charge? Nada....still hadn't managed to hang the new fan...although he has opened the box to see how it will get hung... These were the 2 I wanted the most, as I might have a job for them shortly....I said 4 saws? Well, there was this 18" frame saw.....I never could get the 9ppi sharpened just right....then there was this 100 yr old saw.. The only difference between this and a Disston D-8...is the fancy carved handle....Disston stopped making these before 1932, about the same time as they stopped making another saw I have.. The Disston D100 ( no hypen, the 100 was inside of the BIG capitol D) Ever pick up a saw and the handle fits your hand like it was made just for your hand? That is the way with both of these 2 saws. Both are now as sharp as they were when new. And other than the carved handles.. They are the same as a Top of the line D-8. Might get a bit of use out of these. So....next time one of the saws gets a wee bit dull.....it will get taken to Chuck's Sharpening Service, on South Street, in Piqua, OH. When things cool off in my shop..I'll put these back to work...

Did an inventory of all the leftover Pine scraps from the Table project.....A LOT more than I normally have,,,,must be slipping. Then, happened to look up.....and see all them handsaws hanging down.... IF I can find a spot to "park" it....there MAY be a saw till in the works....but there are almost 20 saws to put away....should be "Very Interesting" Will post here, IF I can get a wee bit of shop time...

Well, back said I could at least try a bot of work.....wound up doing an hours worth... Laid out the second corner. Took a couple double checks, to make sure things were on the right directions...don't need backwards dovetails now.. been a few comments about my...dovetail saw....soooo, drug out the disston backsaw... But, even with the wax on the blade, it was still binding in the cut, too fine a teeth. The rip version is at another job site. Went back the the Atkins made saw from Cleveland. There is a LARGE knot in the center of this edge. I adjusted the spacing so no pins were in the way. Still, when I was chopping out the waste, it tried to cause trouble.. Yeah, popped right out. Got this "pin board" done, then the tails were maked out and bandsawn. Had to recheck a few times, to make sure I had things aligned the correct way. I had to trim a couple tails, as that Disston saw had a wavy cut. Straighten that out, and tried a test fit, with a mallet assist.. Not too bad? Upper two were from the Disston saw. Found a wedge, mallet to instal the other side.... Hmm, I might need a few more of them wedges, come glue up time. Grabbed the oak plank I will be using as a bottom.... mainly to hold the sides square. The huge knot hole? I figure I can leave it, and just sweep all the dirt and shaving down through it, saves dumping the tote out. Two corners are now done, dovetail wise. still have two more to do, before the fun begins.. I still have to bevel the sides of the flor board, and cobble the carrying handle. maybe a chisel holder as well? The size is geared towards carring full sized saws and other tools. Stay tuned, if the back settles down, there might be more to this story....

Yup, getting a few "extras" out of the shop. Posted seven saws and two planes on FeeBay today. Saws were cleaned up by me. None needed any repairs. They MIGHT need to see a file, though. Since a better Stanley #6c type 10has arrived, my DE6c is now extra. Same goes with a 5-1/4 plane. Got a better one in a Millers Falls No.11, so the Four Square SW junior is now extra.... FeeBay "handle" is str8leg*123 Note: that is as "Straight Leg" as in Infantry 11B20..... Needn't worry about me and handsaws...still have a few GOOD saws in the tills. Just didn't need to have 15 saws hanging around. There is even a matched pair of saws in the bunch.
