    Shelf under an end table

Well, the Boss wants a shelf under her end table....to replace that UGLY, plastic tub with a lid thingy....and wants the shelf a bit lower, too.. Hauled 3 planks to the shop.. Yeah...I have seen better ones... Going to take some selective cutting.. Some will be heading for the burn barrel...lay out a bunch of cut lines... As I need 3 @ 1 x 6 x 26", and 6@ 1 x 6 x 12" Goal being to have a 1 x 16 x 26" panel for the shelf, and two panels @ 1 x 16 x 12" for the legs....was a bit awkward to use the tablesaw, so.. We have ways...Disston No. 112, 7ppi crosscut. And a VERY COMFY, well worn handle...I cut the 26" long pieces first.. These are rough sawn...will need a bit of work to get flat and smooth...right now, this is a bit too wide.. Then, whatever was left over, was cut up for the leg blanks.. For right now, I'll set these aside, and work on the main panel... Cleared for action. Need a Jointer.. Junior Jack to help out... One of the 3 blanks was narrower than the other 2, made that the center of the panel. I Jointed both edges, and then flattened both faces...As for the other 2...also got face planed..but..only one edge was jointed...as the other edgewas getting a little trim....about 3/4" ..then it was jointed... Flipped the board around a few times..looking for the best match of the grain... Work in Progress...2 out of 3...left one? May get moved a bit more....as for how close to 16" width? Close enough for the girls I run around with... Sunday Morning...Clamps & Cauls...even brought a NEW glue bottle to the shop! Middle... Other end.. And a view of the top.. So..how well does the grain line up? letting this sit a day or 2...right now, it needs to be off of my tablesaw...as I will be needing it, again... Note on the clamps...2 go under, out near the ends..the 3 goes over, and is about centered....seems to work best for the large panels I make... Stay tuned..

    Pile of scraps...

Over the coarse of a few projects, where I have had to rip a side of a plank down to size....kept the strips over in a pile, "just in case" sort of thing...like cauls...fillers for panel glue ups....still couldn't reduce that pile...and it kept growing...so.. gathered the entire stash....the distance between the bandsaw riser, and the bandsaw blade (~12") was used to trim the stach down to size...everything that was long enough, was stacked up....those that weren't....fire pit can ( getting a bit full, now)....made sure each could be glued up in to a panel....jointed most edges....spread the glue, and fight things into the glues.....like trying to herd cats. Let this mess sit a day...... Clamps removed, panel did not want to leave the vise? 1 whack with my hand, freed the panel...and... Some fresh DNA them little dried glue points are SHARP! Then the tablesaw to trim the ends... Both ends were a bit...off. Then clamped up between the bench dogs...80 grit belt on the sander herd of Cats took offense, and the panel skipped right over a dog, and did the splits on the floor....Fine....made things a bit easier...places that were too thick...ripped down a bit..glue joint was redone...ripped most of the Pine edges off...too thick, a big knot, and a hole.. beltsander and this old plane....soon had both "halves" about ready...flat, and jointed.. Almost...both jack planes wanted to joint a bevel....got rid of that bevel...try again.. That should do it.....no cats to herd, so... 4 cauls, 9 clamps.....then set this aside... And wait on the glue to cure...again. Stay tuned...

    Drill box project update

have a panel all glued up Just some more thin Oak. Have all four corners joined up on the box. Was using it to set the glue up on. Some came out better than others. Stand it up for a moment.. These weren't too hateful. Seemed the more I worked on this, the better each corner got. Laid it back down, on the new panel(for now) and tried a layout of sorts have a few others to bring to the shop, but I think this might work. Maybe some grooves to hold them in place? Have a couple more blanks to joint, glue up and trim to size... Some donated maple. As for that plane that keeps trying to photo bomb this? Will need this to make a few rebates. Maybe set it to allow a bottom to set in the box?? So far, so good...might stay tuned...
