  1. Courtland

    Grizzly Catalog 2015

I got mine in the mail today! I know what I'll be doing tonight at bedtime! Reading, and reading and reading till I fall a sleep with images of sugar plums, or I mean machinery and tools dancing in my head! I only wish the postal service would figure out how to get this in my mail box without fraying and ripping the edges! It looks pretty good in this image but that's only because it all laid flat for scanning. In real life it's all ripped up!
  2. Did a little turning this week, getting ready for that church craft show. These are called "Dibbles" or "Dibbers" and are used by gardeners for making holes to plant bulbs/seeds. These are roughly 8" long and a little over 1" in diameter. The rings are 1" apart to assist in the planting depth. I used a wire "Garotte" to burn the marks, thus making them more visible. Made from hard Maple that had dark streaks. I made 10 of these. Maybe I can sell them for $5 each. The finish is a bee's wax/mineral combo. On a few of these, I used my Sorby spiraling tool to make "threads". The one on the right was my first attempt. It came out the best of all of the ones I made- beginners luck! The threads are straight but on the other turnings, the threads are wavy. You can see this on the left turning. Not sure what I was doing wrong. If anyone has one of these tools, I would appreciate tips/advice. I'm also making a few bottle stoppers. I have some Spalted Maple that is thick enough for turning. Post pix of them next week. If you get a chance, head on over to Cliff's page. He's made a really nice tool carousal for his new lathe- http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/forum/topics/tool-carosel-got-r-dun He has incorporated some great feature into his design. Safe turning!
  3. As we head into this weekend I am reminded of one of the most significant pieces of woodworking, the Cross. Jesus' earthly father was a carpenter and must have taught him the trade. To have been there when the trees were created and to see them turned into the usable furniture they needed must have seem special. Then to be nailed to the cross to die for our sins. When I look at the cross and see two pieces of wood put together, I see much more than two pieces of wood put together. But we are thankful that it didn't end at the cross, as Jesus was raised from the dead and lives today, having paid for our sins and providing the path for eternal life for us with the Father in Heaven. This weekend will have some woodworking on Saturday for me, but then we will spend time together as a family on Sunday. My youngest granddaughter prayed and ask Jesus into her heart on Tuesday night. She will make it public at Church this Easter Sunday morning. I am looking forward to being there and witnessing her coming forward. I hope you all get to spend precious time with your families this weekend and to celebrate the life, death and resurrection of my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. As always, we here at TPW love to hear about and see the projects you are working on. Have a very blessed weekend and please share with us your planes for this weekend.
  4. I am hitting the busy part of the show season for me so it is busy in the shop every chance I have. Monday night it was time to make cheese board blanks so I can get them cut this weekend into 16 boards. I can get four cheese board out of each of these blanks. Last night I was gluing up blanks for Bread Dipping Trays. I can get 10 Bread Boards out of those five blanks. They should also get finished this weekend. Now if all goes good, I should get five cutting board blanks cut and glued this weekend also and they will be ready to make the other glue up on Sunday and then sanding first of the week. I have First Friday on the first of May, the very next day I have been invited to a HGTV fund raiser and they gave me a booth. Two weeks later I have a two day show and then two weeks after than First Friday and then a frontier days show at one of the Civil War Museums. After that, I am taking a break and having my right knee replaced. So what is on your Patriot Woodworker agenda this weekend. Are you finishing a project, starting a new project, building jigs, cleaning the shop, getting ready for grass mowing season or spending the weekend relaxing? We here at TPW would like to know and see your projects so tell us what you have going in your shop this weekend.
