Japanese Silkwood Carved Spoons

I just keep carving them, they are fun. Sitting in the patio with family around, and I get to woodwork. Carving small items by hand can be a personal and relaxing time, and you can talk to the people nearest you while the carving is quietly taking place.

The spoon on the left is almost ready for finish.

Thanks Gunny, I really don't like the grain, it's too course, a pain to carve, but the log was free, I figured I'll at least practice with the wood I split out of it.

Once I get a hold of some beech or birch or tighter grained greewood, it's going to be a joy to use. It's kind of neat that I started with difficult wood to carve, the good stuff will be a pleasure to use after this stuff.

If I can carve this Silkwood, I should be able to carve anything! :)

John, I am sorry that I didn't say this earlier.  These look almost factory made.  Excellent work and like Gunny, I love the grain.  Thank you for showing us those husband trainers.

In doing this did you have all the tools you needed?  Or did you discover a new one you want now?

Just a hatchet and two knives Gunny, it's all I need. :)
