John Morris 41,425 Posted October 2, 2014 Report Man this is nice Lew, absolutely georgeous! Is the bowl the same thickness all the way through, even the base? Quote
lew 48,017 Posted October 2, 2014 Report Thanks for the kind words, John. I really appreciate it. Pretty much the same all over, John. Around the outside edge of the mortise, I made for the chuck, is a little thicker. Overall it is about 3/16" thick. Quote
John Morris 41,425 Posted October 4, 2014 Report Sweet, very nice, I like the proportions of it, not too thin and not too thick, many bowls I have seen just seem chunky, not yours. Quote
lew 48,017 Posted October 4, 2014 Report Thanks., John. That is a major criticism I have about my own work. What ever I make always seems so "neanderthal" compared to what I see others make. Quote
John Morris 41,425 Posted October 4, 2014 Report Yep, even in case work, I used to have that problem till I had a long discussion with Bob Kloes about thin lines and mixing up the board thickness's for the entire piece, instead of going with 3/4 all the way through, it really looks nice when you do the sides one thickness, the shelving a tad thinner, and other components varying thicnkess's. it really gives the piece a unique and hand made look when you mix up the dimensions of the lumber used to build case work.
