A look at the top.   Most of the panel came to the shop as is.  And was made of Oak.   There is just a hint of white sap wood along the back edge.  Birdseye maple to make the rest of the lid.    Bread board ends use a sliding dovetail to attach to the ends of the lid.

Two or three coats of Amber Shellac for a finish.
