Cal Members June 18, 20179 yr Author stats That is really nice Dale! I have never heard of cherry used as an outdoor wood, maybe due to cost? How does it hold up and/or what will you use as a finish to protect it? Cal
Dale Felice Members June 18, 20178 yr Author stats Hi Cal. Anything is game on in chainsaw carving. I've even seen it laminated from kiln dried too. To preserve it I'll use 1/3 log oil 1/3 thinner and sometimes 1/3 spar. However spar tends to create white spots. I let my carvings dry for about a week before I finish it. If it cracks it's normal. Big cracks I'll glue wedges and trim them to blend in. Then restain or color.
