September 20, 201312 yr Author comment_9314 John, you  asked how I do this. I start by turning a goblet, sand & finish it complete. Then I draw on the sides what I want the spirals to look like. Now I drill holes all over where the waste is. Next I use a rotary tool to connect the drilled holes. Then back to the rotary tool with a burr tip. Once I get close to the lines, I start hand sanding until I'm done. It's really important to apply equal pressure to the opposite side of the area you're sanding. Otherwise you may hear that infamous "Tick" the sound of the spiral breaking. When that happens, walk away for a minute, take a breath and go glue it back together. LOL getting pissed means you're bound to break another one. 8-) Report

September 20, 201312 yr comment_9311 Thanks and I'll remember that. Just came in from trying to learn turning.  At my age I hope I can at least turn out something that I can be proud of before I pass on.Dennis Bill Wyko said:I speak from experience LOL!! Glad to help my friend. Report

October 10, 201312 yr comment_9309 Thanks Bill; The one problem that I'm having right now is the chattering feeling I'm getting when I'm carefully trying to get the smooth feeling when trying to get the best finishing touch on the piece I'm turning. If that makes any sense.  Bill Wyko said:If there's one thing I love about woodworkers, it's that we share.
