John Moody Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 I have been quite behind in doing my post lately. Wasn't sure if I was going to get fired or not, but I hope to be on the mend enough to get things back in the grove. I had worn through the bone on my right knee and it just got to the point I couldn't stand to be up on it. I had a full knee replacement just over a week ago and all is going well. Long way to go but making progress everyday. I have climbed the stairs into and out of the house several times now, quite a bit of walking and the best therapy I like is sitting in the porch swing. They tell me to put my foot down and lightly swing back and forth the help stretch the muscles so I can get the bend back. So yesterday I was in the swing quite a bit. As for working in the shop no shop work yet, but my two sons have been filling in and keeping things running. They have done four shows for me and we have sold numerous pieces out of the shop. I told them we are now Cutting Board Dynasty and I was going to be like Phil on Duck Dynasty, sit in the recliner and say, "happy, happy, happy". But even though I am out of my shop, we here at TPW always want to know what other Patriot Woodworkers are doing on their shops. So share with us your plans for this Memorial Day long weekend. Of course we are want to take time and remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. I hope you will do that over this weekend and remember family members and friends who served our great country and paid the priced of freedom with their lives. WhT other plans do you have for this weekend, are you starting a new project, finishing a project, building jigs, doing home improvement, yard work, shop remodeling, or just sitting in the porch swing and enjoying some BBQ? We want to know and looking forward to sharing in your weekend project so get busy and tell us what is going on in your Patriot Woodworker Shop. I'll be in the porch swing checking often to see who shares with us. Quote
Harry Brink Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 I've been out mowing the yard for the first time since last Oct. We did have a community yard sale last sat. were we sold a few things and found out what we need more of. Making a few "Bob and Betsy" cars for kids, oven pulls and a few other things. I'll get some pics up later today and also of our picnic at Yellowstone park that we took last week. We were lucky and beat the crowd of tourists! Quote
steven newman Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 Have to go out shopping for another van, BEFORE the current goes.....BOOM! Have some Oak all marked up but need to get the chisels ready. Might need a new hacksaw blade, too. Use it instead of a Frame saw. 18" long wood bodied Jack plane build... Quote
Ron Dudelston Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Going racing. We'll be at the Indy 500 just behind the pits. Been there every year since 1965 except for four when I was working for my favorite uncle.....Sam. Quote
Wayne Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Hoping to get the final trim up in my daughters new kitchen. Funny when the kids buy a new house how you get to remodel it to thier taste. LOL. After that I may get to actually get back into my shop, once I move most of it back to my house. Quote
Charles Nicholls Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Enjoy the Race Ron, I'll be watching on TV. Sounds like you are mending good John lets hope it continues, but anytime you want me to post this thread in your absence, let me know. I'll be working on a darning egg that i posted a thread about yesterday This darning egg is for mending socks etc for those that are unclear what it is. The customer wanted a 3/4" hole in the egg so that she could store her needles in it, well after a quick conversation with Lew, I figured out how I was going to do that. As far as stock, most of what I have is 1" or less in diameter actually more 3/4" than 1" so it makes it a bit difficult to round a 3/4" piece to 3/4" lol. Lucky for me I have ONE piece of maple that is 1" so rounded that would bring it down to about 5/8 or 11/16, still not matching the 3/4" requirement. So I'll take the 1" round it then take a very short piece of spalted maple 2" and glue that to the 1" and turn the whole thing as normal. If all goes right I will have a nice transition from one piece to the other and a nice bead at the head of the egg. I'll post again as I get it going. 1" maple stock to be rounded to 5/8"-11/16" the 2" maple that i will be rounding down at the very end to about 3/4" It'll probably be about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" long when done. which then gets mounted to this next piece. This will be about 5 to 6" long because the customer wants to store her needles in it and about 2 1/2" wide. So yep I have my work cut out and ready to rock, 70s-80s music will play all weekend except for when the Indy race is running barring any bad weather I have to pay attention to. Have a fun safe weekend all!!! Quote
Ron Dudelston Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 I'll wave at you Charles. I'll be the guy in the sunglasses. Quote
Charles Nicholls Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 LOL I have a feeling there will be lots of guys and ladies in sunglasses. Who do you root for? Quote
Ron Dudelston Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Castroneves or TK. My son is a friend of Josef Newgarden though. Quote
Fred Wilson Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Ron - I'll be in front of the TV during the race - no 3D, no track smell, no track excitement, but I'll have view of entire track. NASCAR Fans - I'll be in front of the TV during this race also - same as above Shop time - I WILL be in the shop for several hours this weekend - finally getting back to be able to spend at least a few hours a day down there - didn't realize how much I missed playing in the saw dust. Also have several Memorial Day events to go to - proudly displaying my USAF cap and carrying our flag. Quote
Ron Dudelston Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 As always Fred, my flag will be flying. Can't wait for the race. I've never watched the race from behind the pits. Usually I'm 40 rows up in the 3rd turn. This year I'm 18 rows up on the straightaway. Time will tell. Quote
steven newman Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Went out van shopping, and got one to replace the Model "C" Fliver I have been driving. Pick it up next week.. Still have some work with a few chisels to do, but that can be done tomorrow, I'm bushed... Quote
