Friday, May 30th, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Featured Replies

Seems as though the weeks are just flying by. Here we are at the end of May already and jumping full into Summer. I hope you are getting to spend some time in your shop.

I hope to get to visit in my shop a little this weekend, but I will be limited to what I can do and for sure don't want to trip over anything in there. I am working on the rehab of my new knee and it is going well, but yes it does hurt at therapy. I was able to get 85 degrees of bend today which is excellent since it has only been a week and two days since the surgery. Today they put me on the bike and told me to try to get it to go all the way around backward. I could get close but just couldn't get it to go all the way around. It looks so easy, but it just doesn't happen sometimes.

Yes I was almost all the way to the top but it just wouldn't make it over.

But as I have been out of the shop for a few weeks, my sons and DIL and my wife have been keeping things going and making cutting boards and other projects to keep us on schedule.

My son and I were talking and came up with this polka dot cutting board.

He also has three other boards with some variation in the layout ready to get glued this weekend. I hope I can get out there and maybe help do a little glue up or run the drum sander. I can sit on a stool and work on those items for a little while.

So that is what is happening in our shop right now. What are your plans for this coming weekend in your Patriot Woodworker shop? Are you working on a new jig, starting a new project, finishing up a project, working on Father's Day projects, organizing the shop, doing home improvement, getting the yard ready for summer, or spending some time inn the recliner and resting after a long hard week? We here at TPW are interested in the projects you are doing in your shop and love to see pictures of your projects and information about what you are doing posted here. So come on and tell us about your weekend projects!

You never know your project just might inspire someone else to give it a try.

I am waiting to see what you are doing, so come on and post.

Tell Josh that I love the 2nd to the last cutting board. Saturday is auction day for me. There's an estate sale of a gun collector about an hour from here. Since I'm looking for a new pocket pistol, I'll be there. They have a nice Colt Mustang 380 listed but I bet it will bring about $600.

We pick up our grand kids, 7 and 8 y.o. Tomorrow. We've got them for a week. Going fishing, horse back riding, a movie and a fun park. Their parents will be up Wednesday for 4 days. May be helping Kevin build a bathroom cabinet.

Glad to hear the knee is getting back to normal even if it is a while before it's totally there.

This weekend i am working on pens and styluses, I have several that I want to get done, but wont get through but maybe half of them.

I am currently trying to work a deal for a pen and a fire starter, but while i work that out, I am making a stylus from a piece of blue & white acrylic, like the sky on a partly cloudy day. I will do some others in acrylic too, just not as many.

This stylus will be in gunmetal, so attention should have no trouble pulling to the blank itself, which means that I need to take extra care to make sure it is as glossy as I can absolutely get it :)

Excuse the cat hair but it is done :)

Spent quite a bit of money on pen blanks recently so I need to start making that back :)

What are the rest of you doing this weekend?

Bringing yet another archive topic up! This one made me laugh, look at that John Moody, just pedaling away!

Good luck for a rapid recovery on the knee John.

I collaborated with a friend who is a blacksmith, and we did a set of six barstools to sell in a local furniture gallery. Once in a while we get together and make side tables or barstools with the excess materials building up in our shops.

The goal is to make something simple that we both can just knock out fast, looks attractive, and has a high probability of selling. All of these things combined help maximize our profit margin.

Sometimes they take all six stools and sometimes they only want one for display and then take the others when the set sells. This time they only wanted one for display in the showroom.

Barstools tend to sell as full sets of 6 and side tables tend to go in pairs.

I will be working on an arch top screen door install for some clients. I have done a lot of work for over the years. Their house is in the historic area, it is immaculate and they are very particular. I am their 'go-to' guy for working on the house.

Todd, it feels good to be the "Go To" guy by good clients doesn't it?:)

Very nice and clean work sir, by the way, not to rain on your parade, but this Friday topic was brought up from our archives from 2014. It's not current! Sorry for the confusion. John Moody has long since recovered and he is running Triathalons now! Naw not really, but he runs around that's for sure!

I love that home in your reply.

And, thanks for the tips on selling items in numbers, I had not thought of that ever, as far as stools tend to sell in a certain number, and end tables in pairs. Excellent knowledge sharing for us!

Dang... I am just embarrassed all to pieces. I thought this was the current "What's on your agenda?" for the week. I did not even look at the date since it was at the top of the posting list.

Not your fault Todd! We can be a tad confusing around here sometimes!

Well, before the Monsoons restarted today, managed to get back to that one sale.  Spent a bit of my Birthday money..

mitrebox and saw.JPG

$15 for the box and the saw combined.   Box is a Stanley.    Maybe after a good clean up, and new wood, I can find out which model number it is.    Saw is a big, old Disston. 28" x 5"

Took the saw out, and set it with the other three.  Need to research this box a bit.....more rehabs.
