August 22, 201411 yr comment_297 LEMETELLYA That head stock was a BEAST of a lift. From the floor to a low stool from the stool to a bench, from the bench to the bed ( twice). Got 'r up and runnin' and ohhhh sooo smooooothhhh, That three phase with the inverter really delivers too. Running it as the slowest possible I can't grab the hand wheel and slow it. Love the tool rest positioning. Love it. Put that sucker anywhere on the bed and it stay. Changing the belt between the speed ranges is easy. Lift the motor lock it in position and move the belt. I got the bed up with a Come-along and some chain and nylon webbing. Report
August 23, 201411 yr Author comment_303 Gotta get a reducer for my little chuck that fit my Walker Turner. I'm really going to like the ability to reverse. so long as I use the set screw lock faceplate. Report
August 23, 201411 yr Author comment_301 I was just fooling around with the new toy. Afterward I attached a 2x4 to the rafters on a hinge and tied a string to it and affixed a big boot to the lower end. I pull the string to kick my self in the back side. Why didn't I get one of these sooner? My little Walker Turner couldn't do what this thing does so smoothly. I chucked up a hunk rectangular of maple with all manner of flaws splits, rot, & grain issues you name it, between centers. Spun that sucker up fast and took a gouge to it. I got that thing round in no time. On my other lathe I'd be catching and grabbing and the thing would be walking across the floor and generally not fun. Because it frightened me, I only turned things out of necessity or rarely I did make a Brazilian rosewood rolling pin for the missus; American style of course. This thing is not scary. It's smooth. Why didn't I do this sooner? Report
August 23, 201411 yr Author comment_299 like a junkie. I went chuck hunting. I have a perfectly good chuck, but it's for 1-8 thread I was expecting that there were larger chucks, but there are not. They are all about the same size so I ordered an arbor adapter that'll accept the chuck and my face plates. So for $19 I get to keep a very spendy chuck with the bed extension I don't lose much on the width. Last night I installed the remote switch. I likey! The factory live center is a twofer. There's a large aluminum cone that can be removed to expose a smaller one with a center point and a sharp ring the whole thing is exactly like the $120 One-way. Report
