Tuesday at 11:24 PM3 days comment_382430 i have a large supply of white and black oak with lots of worm holes. My spouse does not like the worm holes but so far I am unable to find any filler that once cured and sanded can then be colored by dye or stain any body else? Usually I just overcoat with poly or shellac or lacquer but then color with a marker then add in more top coat.Admin if this should go into general woodworking please move it. Report

For one reason, most woods take a stain differently from each other. The usual rule is to stain the wood, then do a patch to match and apply a final coat.I have often most used touch up products to correct defects. Burn in sticks were my go to, but there are wax and other fillers. You can also use artists colored pencils or graining markers to match grain lines when needed. Or use tinted lacquer and a fine detail brush.But... in refinishing work, I would use Elmer's wood filler in different colors and then use a water-based stain. But these were never for lots of things like worm holes. And I've had a hard time finding the products I've used that were in small tubes, not tubs. Report
