21 hours ago21 hr Popular Post Some of you may remember me posting the making of my Tachi Ganna Plane (Japanese Scraper Plane). While this plane is a specialized plane for flattening plane bottoms, I discovered a few other very delightful uses for it. I'm in the process of making a den coffee table and now starting to make the tops. After laminating the boards, I found it a joy to instantly remove glue lines. One maybe two passes and they are gone! Then I got to wondering if I could flatten the whole surface. UNBELIEVABLE! It looked like I ran it thru a planer. In fact, it's better. Absolutely flat and smooth!!!It made my day. It's such a joy to make a tool and find out so effective. Cheers! Thanks for looking. MrRick

19 hours ago19 hr Now that is way cool Rick, hand made plane by you, and it surprises out of the box! Ya know I have a Veritas scraper plane from years back, I had it humming nicely then just kind of shelved it for whatever reason, this topic is making me want to bring it out again. That nice hearty iron you got there seems like it does not give way to anything, I bet that surface is glassy smooth held up to the light.
7 hours ago7 hr Author @John Morris yeah...I love it. Didn't realize how versatile it could be. Did you know Japanese scrapers differ from western made scrapers. They are honed sharp without a hook. Surface is like sooooo...smooth it's ready to apply a finish. Stunning results. What's more is it's repeatable. Man I love hand tools and really see the attraction for Japanese tools especially.
